Finding an Officiant

I am struggling with finding someone to perform our wedding. I was not raised to follow any particular religion, while my fiance was raised with some church-going. Neither us currently belong to a religious organization, nor plan to any time soon. I have NO idea how to go about finding someone who will perform our wedding. Advice greatly appreciated! We would like something with some element of religion/spirituality/christianity without being over preachy or cheesy.

  • You could also try a celebrant. :)

  • Do you think any of your friends or family would do a good job at this?I was struggling with something similar (though in my case we don't want any religion whatsoever) until I got this suggestion: a lot of states will let people file papers to become a Deputy for a Day (though really it's for your specific wedding, they can't keep marrying other people that same day) and have the legal power to marry you.  I'm in California, and the person who suggested it found me the links for the application and everything.  It's just a $50 filing fee and get it done in time. We're planning to ask my FI's mother's long-time boyfriend to be our officiant.  They refuse to get married, but he's an important part of the family.
