Usually Lurk

Hi ladies!
I just wanted to take a few moments to tell you all that there is a young woman out there that understands etiquette and agrees with the regs.  I've seen them say a few times that some young blood needed to "defend" them to show these young princesses that it's not an age thing.  It's an etiquette thing.

In my time lurking *a lot* on the knot, I've been able to pass on some valuable information to people IRL.  This includes, but is not limited to:

Wishing wells
Ordering dresses from China
Expecting your family to do everything at the wedding *valet cars, cut the cake*
Not planning to properly host guests
Not providing a chair for every butt
PPD
"Getting Started" fund
Replacing bridesmaids
Replacing groomsmen

So for the women and men who don't take my advice to come to the knot, I just wanted the regs to know that someone is spreading the word face to face.

This was mainly a shot in the arm for the regs since they deal with a lot of *but you don't know me*, *things are different now*, and other self entitled responses.

Re: Usually Lurk

  • Good for you! In turn, your guests will be well taken care of and happy :)
  • Yes I have learned a lot from the regs as well, and have been fortunate to pass on info too.  And for those regs who flamed me when I got here, I do listen and took advice from these lovely ladies, and this weekend I bought a couple a wedding gift from their registry!!!

Yes, people do take advice and hear what you ladies are saying.  Laughing

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Yeah Addie, I did it!!  Oh it was hard, but after thinking about it, you lovely ladies were right.  As a person who was not welcomed with open arms, I can say for other "lurkers" who post, you may not like what you hear, or how it is said, but the regs know a lot and listening to them will be beneficial, and will keep your wedding proper, pleasant, and no one will side-eye you, or talk about etiquette fouls, because you will have NONE!
  • Awesome! I think RL applicators need an official title. Maybe Etiquette Advocates or something.

I have to ditto what the OP has said about how helpful the regs are. I've had my fair share of drama with my wedding and whenever I've come here for advice the ladies have always set me straight. Sometimes I liked what they said and sometimes I didn't.  But they were always right!

Ha Ha Ha.  No.  No monogrammed.  Just a boring 'ol, completely impersonal gift that the couple picked out for me to chose from.  Not fun at ALL.
  • Sometimes I think people misread the tone of what is posted by the regs, and read snark into a post where no snark was ever intended.

I appreciate the information that is posted and the discussions.

We bought a black bowtie for our dog last weekend (my dog wears bow ties, what of it?) and FI said "Oh, I guess we're having a black tie wedding!" I immediately rattled off the list of what has to happen in order for a wedding to be truly "Black Tie". He just stared at me like I was nuts. Apparently it was a joke but I was like "NO THE ETIQUETTE BOARD SAYS THIS!"

ETA: Also, when my mom brings up a bad idea (like a b-list, bless her heart) I'm like "Well, etiquette says that's not a good idea..." when in reality, I mean "The Etiquette board says HELL NO!"

I agree with ELM12345.  I don't post much, but rather read the post for tips for my own wedding.  The regs that post are wonderful on providing etiquette knowledge and helping brides navagate through a variety of issues.  I'm glad this board is here with a great group of ladies to help us (me) figure things out!

Plus, I actually like their sarcastic sense of humor!  Keep it coming!

I'm impressed.  :)  I bet the bride and groom will love your gift though - since they registered for it and all.
  • Indeed.  I post more on other boards and lurk here, but I've learned so much and am so grateful for those lessons. I completely agree with kmcclelland7, please keep it coming.
