Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

processional details

For a protestant ceremony, if groomsmen are escorting the bridesmaids down the aisle, which side is the bridesmaid on? Bride is walking down the aisle with both mother and father. Which side is mother on? Do the officiant and groom and best man enter from the side and not walk down the aisle? Is there some tradition why they don't walk down the aisle?

Re: processional details

  • It's really your choice for most the bride is on the left therefore your mother and BM will be on the left when walking down the aisle.  The officiant, the groom and bestman can enter from the side or walk if they chose.  The bestman can also escort your MOH down the aisle.  In some places it's actually a tradition for the bride and groom to walk down the aisle together and even to the church together.  The typical reason for the groom to stand at the end of the aisle is the giving of the bride to the groom and many times the groom didn't know the bride before the wedding.  It really depends on what you and your FI want to do.  I asked mine if he wanted to walk his mom down the aisle or stand at the end.
