Breakfast

So I kinda sorta dont have a stove for the next week and a half so I have to find something new to eat for breakfast (i normally have egg white scrambled eggs, and i refuse to cook my eggs in the microwave).

I bought this:

Do you think it will taste good with blue or black berries and a bit of honey? I rarely if ever eat oatmeal so im not sure if this is going to taste like crap or not.

Also, what do you eat for breakfast?

Re: Breakfast

  • *drool* I love oatmeal and we don't have it here.  I actually brought back packets from the US this time.  I normally, if it's not a pre-flavored kind, add brown sugar and/or maple syrup. Nomnom.

Breakfast here is just cereal normally.

Hmmmm I have a bag of maple sugar crystals I bought last year and never used, maybe I will try that in it. I have maple syrup too, but I want to see what the other stuff tastes like. Good idea.
  • I've never eaten oatmeal.
I'm currently eating strawberries. I also love bacon and turkey bacon.

It should be fine.  I mean Oatmeal is oatmeal.  I would agree with Amoro to add a touch of brown sugar and or butter.

ETA:  Do NOT let it dry on the bowl.  That stuff is better than wallpaper paste.

  • I eat the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal because it has more protein and fiber.  I love the Maple and Brown Sugar one and I don't add anything to it.  I also like the Cinnamon and Banana Bread flavors.

  • Mm, I love oatmeal with dried cranberries in it and a touch of brown sugar and cinnamon. Maybe some skim milk to make it a little creamier.

On weekdays, I eat cereal with skim milk, or fat-free cottage cheese, toast with low-sugar jam and a banana. None of which requires a stove. Do you at least have access to a toaster?

Hmmm I should have looked at that, that one has 3g more of fiber than the 100% whole wheat one I bought, though mine has no sugar or anything else added which I like. I am trying to veer away from preservatives again because im not losing weight lately. I tried the reduced sugar kind a while ago, but it smelled like chemicals to me so I didnt really like it :(

Im looking at the nutritional info for all the quaker oats right now, and oddly enough the weight control has the most fiber out of any of them - even mroe than the high in fiber kinds! Thats so strange!

I know!  I hate that it has "weight control" plastered across the front, but it keeps me full longer.  I also have a glass of milk and oj.  Mid morning I snack on dry cereal - my fave is the Special K Protein Plus.

I'm a bit of a protein hoar since I don't eat meat, so I try to make sure that I'm getting enough for the baby.

I use protein powder to get more during the day - I have some in milk with breakfast (works out to 40g!) and some in water after I work out in the afternoon. I wont get enough protein otherwise. I just looked up the info for blackberries, and half a cup will have about 3-4g of fiber, so I would get close to 7g overall which im happy with.

Ooh, well then you could also make hard boiled eggs. It's not as good as a hot omelet, but at least it will be easier to separate the yolks out. :)

  • I do berries with a bit of spiced honey that I made last summer with my oatmeal, when I have it.  Usually I just do cereal with milk and berries and a glass of OJ in the morning.

I need to do more with eggs in the morning, or the whey powder I bought, gotta pick up a blender first to make smoothies.  Got any good ways to use the whey powder besides drinking it?

You can mix it in with yogurt, though it takes a while to blend. Im too impatient so I have only tried it once. It does NOT mix well with hot chocolate either, let me tell you its positively disgusting!! I normally just stir mine in milk or water and drink it, I dont bother making smoothies although now that I have a ton of spinach kicking around I might try to make a green monster smoothie to see what all the hype is about.
  • When I eat oatmeal (Maple and Brown Sugar flavored only) I always make it in the microwave.

Sometimes I'll eat some cinnamon toast or a bagel. If I eat cereal I always eat it out of the box.....I don't remember the last time I actually had a bowl of cereal w/milk lol.
