Got my first two RSVPs Back! one - replied back for an extra person...

I just got my first RSVPs back...one that was addreseed to a couple - they have declined.  my Aunt just RSVP for two guests...the invitation was only addressed to her.  any suggestions on how to address that with her?

my cousin also told me that because hte RSVP card had a space for "number of persons" attending...that i may even see some people RSVP for 3-4 people... i thought the way i did hte invites - the people who the card is written to are the invited guests..and they should only RSVP for that number...

any help on how to address people rsvp for more than the invited guests?

You need to call them up and let them know that the invitation was for the person that it was addressed to ONLY  and that while you would like to allow them to bring their guest you had planned for a specific number of guests.

ETA: Do you know who your aunt's +1 is?  Did she perhaps start dating someone? It might be good to find out but you'll need to be firm on your # of guests unless you have an unlimited budget to add unplanned guests.

  • ditto PP, however leave some space in the discussion for the possibility of a new SO or in the case of older guests the possible need for a travel companion.  Basically instead of starting off right with "the invite was only for you" ask who their +1 was going to be so that if it IS a new SO you weren't aware of you can respond appropriately. ("Oh of course he's welcome, we can't wait to meet him.")
  • as of last week she wasn't dating anyone - but I'll ask her who it is first
