Wedding Etiquette Forum

I don't know if this has been asked.

So, I've actually never been to a wedding, I know absolutely nothing about weddings, and though I have awhile before getting married, I thought I would start some reseach some stuff now. Anyway, here is my question:

Do weddings and receptions have to be at different locations? I don't think I'll be getting married in a church seeing as I am not all that religious, and I don't know if I can do both at the same place or not.

Re: I don't know if this has been asked.

  • No, they dont have to be at seperate locations. I think its actually easier if they are in the same place. However, if you plan to take an hour or so between the ceremony & the reception to take pics and what not, make sure you properly host your guest and provide some sort of cocktail hour during that time.

  • I'm getting married and having my reception at a country club.
  • As I understand it, wedding is the whole event, which includes a ceremony and reception.

Our ceremony and reception were at the same venue, just in different areas of the property.
  • We got married and had our reception at a country club.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • My wedding ceremony and reception are going to be at the same venue. It's a restored 1890's Victorian house.

We're getting married in the upstairs parlor, having a cocktail hour on the front patio, and hosting a sit down dinner reception in the main dining room and private back veranda.

IMO it's easier to have it all in one place. Allows people to relax and really enjoy the whole event.

  • As of right now, my plans are to have the ceremony, "cocktail" hour (it's at 11 AM, so it'll be a coffee hour with no cocktails), and reception all at the same place.  I thought it would be the easiest on the  guests for a winter wedding so they didn't have to drive too far in case of bad weather.

<div>That sounds really nice.  I'd suggest, if you haven't already, including a hot drink besides coffee available.  I don't drink coffee, but love hot chocolate or spiced hot cider in the winter.</div>
  • I have never heard of doing a coffee bar for a wedding, but I absolutely love that idea! Im a huge coffee drinker and would really love that. But, I do reccommend doing hot chocolate and tea, for those people who dont drink coffee (as Loopy mentioned). Will you be serving pastires or something small as well?
