should I be paying for hair and make up?

I am finding out that hair and make up for my party of 8 people (including me, 5 bridesmaids, and 2 moms) is VERY expensive, and I cannot afford to pay for both hair and make up.  I thought about giving them gift certificates towards what ever service they want done, or paying for one of the services either make up or hair.  I am not requiring that they get anything done professionally or done at the same place as I do-  is the gift certificate along with a gift good enough or is it cheap?  Any suggestions to help with keeping within the budget?

  • If you are not requiring that they get hair/makeup done then you do not need to pay for it.  It is a nice gesture if you can contribute toward the cost, but certainly not necessary.

  • I agree. If you are giving them a separate gift to thank them for being a part of your wedding, it is not necessary to pay for their hair and make up.

  • Just leave it optional. If I were a BM, I'd want something other than a gift cert for something related to your wedding as my gift. But if you found a good deal, I might pay for those things myself.
