Family drama and picking the date

My fiancé and I are planning a Spring 2012 wedding.  When we originally picked that timeframe, and started telling people, the first thing my cousin said was “Just don’t pick the first weekend in May.  That will be my baby’s first birthday party.”

She's currently pregnant, and her due date is May 5th, so I guess she’s assuming that whenever the baby is actually born, she will still have the party the weekend of May 5th. I was pretty taken aback, but I didn’t think much of it, because we were aiming for April anyway.

Well, it turns out the venue we love is only available 5/5/12. I don’t really want to change my plans, but I am worried that picking this date will upset my family, or worse, cause a large portion of them not to attend. We are very very close, and I consider my cousins some of my best friends.  And, this particular cousin has convinced peope to boycott events before (we're a very dramatic family).

So, my question is: Do I defer to my cousin, since she claimed the weekend first? Or, do I take the date and venue I want, and accept that some or all of her family will not attend as a result?
