XP-NWR Mani/Pedi question

Ladies, the wedding beauty board is like a ghost town....so I thought I would get some opinions from the "E" ladies. :)

I am thinking of starting my own mani/pedi side business and would like to get some imput on prices. I would only do natural nail mani/pedis as you need to be certified for acrylics/gel/shellac.  Please let me know if you would pay these prices? Do you think they are fair? Too much? Too little?

Mani/Pedi includes clipping and shaping nails as well as Avoplex cuticle oil treatment

Fingers

$10 mani with OPI nail laquer

$12 mani with OPI nail laquer with nail art on accents (four fingers total)

$15 mani with OPI nail laquer with all fingers with nail art design

Toes

$12 pedi with OPI nail laquer

$14 pedi with OPI nail laquer with nail art on big toes only

$16 pedi with OPI nail laquer withall toes with nail art

Thanks in advance!

Re: XP-NWR Mani/Pedi question

  • That's pretty reasonable for mani/pedis, so I'd definitely visit your salon! :)

That's super cheap for a pedi!  I normally pay around $45-50 (plus tip) for both a mani/pedi.

  • Thanks for the responses ladies.  I understand that a salon would charge much more...but they have things like fancy-pants massager chairs and whatnot. I wouldn't have those things. I was thinking of making it a traveling business almost. Like me going to a client's home and doing it there. What do you think would be a fair increase to the price to include that?

  • I pay $25 for mani/pedi combo in Center City Philadelphia.  It's more expensive to do each separately, but they give you a break on doing both at the same time.  Easy price to figure out a tip for, too!

    Joy,

Have you ever done any nail art with that? or is that for just nail laquer only and nail art is extra?
  • In Central NJ, I pay $23 for a pedi before tipdo. I do LCN so I don't get manis, but I believe my salon charges about $10 for a basic mani and charges $5/two nail design.

I will say that I once had a mani/pedi done at home (my grandmother had a girl's day for her, my mother and I) and it was AWESOME. I'd definitely look to spennd money on one again if I knew someone in my area who did them!

  • The places that I go are fairly inexpensive, and a mani-pedi without shellac (just plain polish, foot scrub, clipping, shaping, etc, is $40. Shellac is an extra $10, French is an extra $5.  Separately, they charge $15 for a manicure and $28 for a pedicure since there's more work involved.

Where will you be performing your services? If you're doing it in your home I think they're find but if you're renting a storefront I think you would need to raise them a bit.

  • I pay $25 for a regular pedicure (soak, OPI polish, clip, buff, whatever) in Durham, NC. They have massager chairs, but I can never get them to work. Most people charge EXTRA for home visits, not less -- the extra balances the convenience factor for the recipient and the traveling pain in the butt factor for the provider. They'll still get to soak their feet in a hot tub, right? Would it be jetted?  It's been years since I've been to the Omaha area, but if you'll have the jetted soaking tub, I still think $20 plus tip for a regular-polish pedicure brought to my feet would be a bargain....

  • The most important part of the pedicure for me is the soaking and scrubbing.  I agree with vbjoanna that if you came to my house with a small foot-soaking jetted tub (they make them), soaked and scrubbed and painted my toe nails, I would GLADLY pay you $20 plus a good tip. I would also gladly pay $30-35 for a mani-pedi combo at my house:-)

Pedi: Nail shaping, cuticle removal, callous removal, clean feet, lotion + massage, and nail polish.

Mani: Nail shaping, cuticle removal, clean hands, hot towel, lotion + massage, and nail polish

Both for $25.  Honestly - I think they do a far better job than some of the big name salons around here.

I've never done nail art or the gel nailpolish.  I believe something like crackle might be the same price or a $2 more.  I'm sure more involved nail art is more expensive.  Sorry I'm not more help!

[QUOTE]Are you certified to do mani/pedis? I have to be honest, I would not pay someone to do them who did not have training from either a nail place or a cosmetology school because it's just too risky.

This.  And also if you were doing home-to-home travelling, I'd be really wary because I couldn't see the machines you used to sterilize your equipment.  I like seeing those nail clippers come out of the little UV box, thanks.  :)

That said, just for your information, these prices are about a third of what I pay in the DC area, assuming your services include, as some PPs noted, soaking and scrubbing with a jet tub.
