Another weird problem: wedding presents and insistent guests

So, we've been having a little bit of a weird issue with Charlie's best friend and his girlfriend (for those of you who are home making a scrapbook about my life, yes this is one that I had a weird past history with). We have our wedding registry, which is fairly modest but filled with household items that we need and plan to use for pretty specific things (I like cooking, and I registered for a bunch of cooking implements for special tasks that I want to learn how to do).

Tonight we got a call from this couple. First the girlfriend worked on me, and then the guy worked on Charlie. What they want to know is, "What do you REEEEAAAALLLLLYY want for your wedding? Because the presents you registered for aren't good enough and we want to get you something awesome." We tried telling them that the things on the registry are what we want, and that since we're so close to the wedding/move to DC we're kind of out of ideas, but they didn't really buy that. They want us to "think about it" for a day and then call them back tomorrow.

What the heck would you do in that situation? I feel like we did the registry to tell people what kind of stuff we would like, and I'm fine with them getting something that's not on the registry, but I don't really want to sit around with them and hold their hands and help them brainstorm how to spend money on me. It's weird.

I'm weirded out. How would you handle it?
