WR - "It never occurred to me..."

... to have colored shoes at my wedding. Damn those would have been cute.

... to have a cash bar, for any reason.

... to tell my MIL since she wasn't paying she could butt out. I always listened to every word like a good FDIL and then smacked my own head against a wall for 5 hours.

  • Ditto amoro, I'm sick of looking at it. Luckily a lot of it is still at my mom's house, I need to get all of it together and try to sell it I guess.

...to put colors in my bouquet.  Looking back, I would have considered colored flowers in my bouquet with cream/white flowers for the BMs.  I think I would have liked the contrast better.

...that we could seat in a way other than a sweetheart table or a head table.  We went with a sweetheart but now I'm wondering if a king table with all our BP and their dates could have been fun.

I agree!  Since I'm picky (and a veg), I'd much rather be able to go up and get 3 rolls and a heap of pasta instead of some meal that I usually don't like.

  • I love buffets! However, they caaaan be poorly done. Many buffets are never refreshed, cold, and out of the way for granny to get to. I love the food options, but you have to make sure your venue is on top of them.

Ditto on the monogram and aisle runner.

It never occurred to me to not send thank yous for anything, to NOT wear red shoes, to get my makeup professionally done, to invite my cousins' 20 children under the age of 5, to have a flower girl or ring bearer.

I also love buffets. Would much rather binge on fettuccine and rolls than poke at undercooked cold steak.  Steak isn't always better apparently.

  • It also never occurred to me to invite my step-mother's family. I did invite her mother, who I have a relationship with, but I did not invite the rest of her family because I've met all of them maybe once in the 10+ years she and my father have been married. I never get invited to their family vacations, and her niece got married about two years ago and didn't invite me because I'm sure it never occurred to her to invite me! But, I think my Dad is bent out of shape over it because a) HE talks to these people all the time and for whatever reason always tries to explain to them why they were not invited and b) I invited all of my step-father's family, whom I am very close to, and who invited me to their family wedding in this same year (and it never would have occurred to them not to because we are close).

    End rant.

I don't think so, we weren't at least. We had to choose from a booklet :) I always wanted a poem read at our ceremony but couldn't because it was Catholic.  Actually having a Catholic ceremony never occurred to me at first because H isn't even really practicing and I'm not Christian, but apparently it was important to him.

It actually never occured to me to do a buffet either. The food is just too good at my place (award winning.)

And no, Catholics are not allowed to write their own vows. I see this question all the time though if you can write your own vows as a Catholic... but that never occured to me to change the mass, you know? We did however write our own prayer that we shared with every one on our wedding day at the church. It was more of a calling for a blessing than vows though.
  • We also had the option to write a prayer and read it aloud as part of the homily.  Too bad H is terrified of public speaking. Our priest actually made a joke about how I was all for it but H said no, so he "had" to do the homily instead.  It was kind of awkward honestly and one of the few things I remember from the ceremony.

  • It never occurred to me that people would really care that much about my wedding.  So much so, they would start inviting themselves.  I'm still rather shocked.

  • - to have a dollar dance *

    - to dye my crinoline *

    - to have personal attendants *

    - to have a honeymoon registry

    - not to have a gap between a Catholic mass and reception

    - not to have our siblings in the WP

    * I had seriously never heard of these things before going on TK

  • ...to HAVE a dollar dance.

...to make my bridesmaids match from head to toe.
  • I have already decided to wear colored shoes!  I think it will look really cute when they peek out from under the dress, while I'm walking, dancing, etc., a little unexpected.
I don't know what to write that didn't occure to me... maybe it will happen further into the planning.
