Rehearsal Dinner Invitations For OOT Guests

Our Rehearsal Dinner is a BBQ in a shelter, so very low key. Our guest list is about 50 people at this point (wedding party plus in-town family on his side that will be helping with the wedding).

FMIL says the more the merrier, no big deal, and we can invite the OOT guests, too, if they are in town on Friday.

But. How does this happen? We have invitations for the rehearsal dinner, but when do they go out? I kind of don't want to send them in a barrage of invitations if these OOT guests aren't even coming. But if I wait until the RSVP date, it's really cutting it close (May 18th is the RSVP date, Rehearsal is May 31st, but FMIL doesn't want RSVPs (this blows my mind a bit)).

How should this go down? So far, to a few people, I've just mentioned it.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Invitations For OOT Guests

  • I would definitely send them out soon since some people might come a day early. I also wouldn't be annoyed my two invites in the mail, no big deal!
  • Sould they go out at the same time as the invitations (probably around the first week in April)? Or can I wait until May for these because there is no RSVP?
  • I vote same time, because it would impact my travel plans.  I'd feel bad/be annoyed/feel B-listed to get the invite weeks later when I'd already made my plans.

Yeah, I totally get that, too.
  • My fiance's family just sent out our rehearsal dinner invites this week about four weeks after our wedding invitations went out. The wedding is in less than two weeks--I frankly thought the RD invites should have gone out ages ago, but they didn't see it as a rush, and since they're the hosts of the RD, it's their call.

Anyway, two people asked if they had been B-listed for the rehearsal dinner because of the drastic timing difference between the two invites. I thought that that assumption was a little extreme, but I think the more information you give, the better people can plan.
