Define a "small" wedding.

How small is small? I've heard people say "oh I'm having a small wedding of 200"... In my opinion, 200 is NOT small. What's yours?

Re: Define a "small" wedding.

  • 50 or less is small to me
  • I'd say mine is "smallish" because in my family, 200+ is average. I'm aiming for 75. I couldn't put 75-150 because I think anything over 100 is an average sized wedding.

  • I voted for option B, but I do have to say that I always referred to my wedding as small and we were in the 120 area. This is because most often weddings in my area are between 175 and 225 people. It was relative.
  • Mine is going to be 15-20 people... pretty small :)

  • I'd say around the 50-75 range.  Immediate family, aunts/uncles/first cousins, good friends that you see or talk to somewhat regularly.
  • I also chose B. Anything higher I'd call average, anything lower I'd call very small/intimate.
  • I think anything 75 or under qualifies as small.

  • I said 50-75 too. Because the average wedding around here is 200-300 people
so I think 100-150 is moderate.

  • I, too, think its all relative. To my FI, our 85 person guest list, including kids, is really tiny. He comes from a culture where the whole town is invited and they party for 3 days.

In my circle, 100-150 is about average, so ours is a little on the small side, especially when you allow for all the "No"s we will get.

  • I chose B as well. IMO, anything under 15 is private meaning if you had a larger wedding those people would likely be involved in the wedding (parents, wedding party) and wouldn't be just guests. 75-150/160 is average.
  • To me, fewer than 50 guests constitutes small.
  • I would say anywhere from 50-75 is small

  • I think up to 30 is "intimate," 30- 75 is "small," though you could say that's all simply semantics.

Our wedding was 75 adults + some children; I consider it to have been a small wedding.

    Anniversary

  • I voted for B. We're having a small wedding. We're expecting around 40 people there. =)
  • I would vote for a total number under 75. My FI and I have our guest list at 25-30.

Yup, I posted the last poll.

I consider "small" as under 50 guests.

Mine was what I consider "very small" at 16 guests.

  • i think as a general rule 75 and under would be considered small, but it really depends on where you're from. 150+ for me is what i would call large and anything under 100 is what i would consider small, but for my FI's Irish fam, the 125 we're planning on is considered small. less than 20 and that's what i would call an intimate wedding. but i know some Asian cultures invite 400-500 people so for them 300 might seem small, hehe!

    Lots of people!

I think anything less than a 100 is small.  100 - 150 is average and over 150 is large.
  • how were you able to find venues to accomodate your 30 guests?  I live in New york and everywhere I call want 100+ guests
  • We are having about 100 guests which we consider small.  When both sets of parents are divorced it makes it very difficult to keep the numbers any lower!  100 people for us, only allows us to invite our immediate family and a couple of close friends.
  • I would say anything under 75 guest.
  • I think 15-75 would be small.
I'm having a "intimate" ceremony for 30 close friends and family and a reception for about 75.
  • I'm inviting 220 people and that is average in my circle of friends.
  • Wow!!  My opinion of small is 150 or below.  Which I realize really isn't small, but my wedding is going to have 350-400 people!  Ack!  That's the one thing we actuallly wanted though; absolutely all our family and friends there.
