Out of town guest?

What considers a guest to be OOT ?
I have a few guest that are a few hours away but I am not sure
if they would stay at a hotel or not. Some guest might stay with family that is
close by to the wedding venue. How do i find out if people are planning to stay at a hotel ? I guess I just need an estimate so I can block rooms.

Also for guest that are a few hours drive away, should they be invite to the rehearsal dinner since they are kind of from OOT ?

any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • I would just block off a handful of rooms to begin with -- I know our hotel wouldn't let us block off more than 15 or 20 initially.  Although, we can go back and add more if needed.  Don't go around asking everyone for an exact count, I'm sure they aren't even thinking that far ahead.  You'll be surprised who will and won't book rooms.  We have guests who are driving 2+ hours and not staying the night, and some who live 30 minutes away and are staying at the hotel for convenience.

  • I have never heard of OOTs being invited to the RD in real life,
only on TheKnot when the groom's parents want to invite MANY people to flaunt how much money they can spend on a LARGE RD.
  • 1.  It is not necessary to invite OOT guests to the RD.  The only people who have to be invited are those participating in the rehearsal (if there is one).
    2.  If you decide to invite OOT guests to the RD, I would limit it to those staying in local hotels the night before.  The idea behind inviting them is that if they are already around, and would otherwise have to go out to dinner, it's nice if they can have dinner with family and friends in the same situation.
