We're filing as "married filing jointly" for Federal. Done. Easy. But then it says we can file separately for state even if we file jointly for federal.
When I do jointly for State it says we owe $800-something. When I do separately for State it says we owe $400-something.
But my question (which I can't seem to find the answer to in their so-called help section) is: If I do the 'filing separately', does that mean H has to go in and file his own DE return? Which could increase the total amount that we owe. It still has me put in his unemployment income and everything.
I'm about to start banging my head against the wall.
