in need of a swift kick in the a$$

Okay, so I whined earlier about my daughter slicing her foot open on an oyster shell because she didn't listen to my mom and keep her shoes on while wading in the mud. At the time, my mom said she felt like she should cover the bills that insurance didn't cover. Bills are starting to trickle in, and so far insurance won't cover $750 (out of the $2000 plus that insurance has been billed so far). My mom hasn't said anything further about covering the bill. Somebody please give me swift kick in the ass and tell me a cannot mention anything to my mom (i.e. can't ask for money).

  • You can't ask for it.  But you can casually mention it in conversation that you can't believe how much insurance isn't covering.

  • Why is insurance not covering more than that?  That sounds really outrageous for stitches.  I'd first resubmit those claims and see if they'll cover more.

But like DNB said, you could casually mention the BS that is insurance coverage in regards to the bill.  :)
  • ya i second...or third the casual mention
  • Stacks, the $750 is part of the deductible, so I'm on the hook for it. :-(

I would casually mention how stressed you are to come up with the $750 and hope it works ;)
  • Oh, Sara that stinks. You guys must have one of those high deductible hsa plans or something. But don't ask your Mom for money. Just don't do it.

Psh...I'd be happy with a $750 deductible.  Mine is $5,000!  I have private insurance until November when I can get on FI's and low deductibles are insanely expensive for private coverage.

But I agree with just casually mentioning the deductible.  It's very possible that she forgot about it or something.

  • See, this is so not what I thought the E "Party Line" was going to tell me. It really wouldn't bad just horrible and selfish of me to mention something in passing about the deductible (which is $1300, with out of pocket max of $3000 per person, $7000 per family, and that is NOT the high deductible plan)?

Wow. $5k is a lot. I thought ours was bad. H has one of those HSA plans and our deductible is $3k. Of course we never meet it with just the two of us. But I know once we have kids, it will get met really fast.

Dude it's her granddaughter.  If you float the idea out there I see no harm in allowing her to help out.  There is a difference between paying medical bills and paying for wedding favors.
