Sloppy?

Hi everyone.  We are tying the knot on April 27, 2013.  After numerous attempts to take engagement pics, they are finally scheduled for next week.  We are not sure when we are getting our pics back, it could be November.

I have been throwing the idea around for combining our Christmas Card with our save the dates.  Sort of a "Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays from Us" and a "Can't wait to see you on April 27."  That way, we aren't sending our save the dates so late (It would probably be mid November, like I said before if we just do a save the date), and having a "twofer".  All of the cards would be going out to family and close friends, who already have their hotel rooms booked and know the date.  We would send these cards out closer to the holidays.

Is this sloppy? Should I just ditch the save the date idea all together?

I know some people may be against this, but in searching for my own save the dates, I came across this one that had a holiday theme and thought it was cute...

Now whether or not it is an etiquette no-no, I am not sure...But i think it may be a cute idea because it fits within your timeline to send the save the dates.

  • I feel like if all your VIPs know the date and have rooms booked already you might as well forgo STDs and just use a cute engagement picture for a fun holiday card.
  • Here is the Etsy seller that makes these if you do decide to go this route...

  • I would skip STDs.  They should be sent out 6-9 months from the wedding, and you're already at the 6 month mark.  I'd still use some of the pictures and have a cute holiday card, though.

It's not against etiquette to do a two-fer, but I think it would be silly that late and when everyone already knows the information. I also vote that you should just use a cute engagement photo in your holiday card.

ETA: If any of your issues with setting up engagement photos were on the end of the photographer who you are planning to use for your wedding, I cannot advise more for finding a new photographer. Huge red flag IMO.

  • I vote cute holiday card too. Though we did get a combo save the date/super early Christmas card about a month ago for FI's cousins wedding that's in December. I thought it was kind of silly to send a Christmas card so early, but to each their own. We hung it on the fridge regardless.

  • It does seem a little pointless, but I wouldn't really think much of it if I received one in the mail.
  • My wedding is in July and we are going to do combo STD/Holiday cards.
  • I don't see anything wrong with it! There are a lot of cute options and I think it would be sweet and save you a little time and money. Have fun!
  • I understand where you are coming from re the photographer. Her dad was admitted to hospital for breaking his hip the night before our shoot. I would never ever ask someone to come amd take engagement pics after that. It has been a mix between us putting them off and our busy schedule. This is not the photographers fault at all!

</div><div>I don't see anything wrong with it. I think doing a traditional STD might be overdoing it, but a cute holiday card with a reminder to STD would be great. I love the cute pic she posted. It doesn't take away from your holiday card, but it has that subtle reminder so people can plan ahead. </div>
