Completely O/T and belated, but reactions to "Rachel Getting Married"?

I finally got this on Netflix. I'm curious about your reactions, especially on this board :-)

Re: Completely O/T and belated, but reactions to "Rachel Getting Married"?

  • It made me uncomforable, some parts were very... raw?
  • I thought this movie was phemonenal and I wish it/she had gotten more awards for it.  Some parts are a little cringe inducing and others drawn out, but I think thats part of why it is so wonderful.  It's not a neat, slick package like so many movies, and it's all the better because of it.

"Whatever East. You're just mad I RSVP'd "lame" to your pre-wedding sleepover."
  • Yeah, I should specify that the uncomfortableness was only achieved through really awesome acting.

Yeah I'm with East, I think the awkwardness/uncomfortableness was completely intentional and what made this movie so unique and memorable.  DH absolutely *hated* it though, I saw it with him, my mom, and two friends and he would barely speak to us once he realized we all liked the movie.
  • Oh I loved this movie. It was such a great film. Even my boyfriend watched parts of it and enjoyed it and he rarely likes movies without bloodshed and dirty jokes.

  • I appreciate the talent that went into making uncomfortable scenes and I love the art direction and cinematography.  But the long drawn out parts just made me lose interest and get annoyed.

  • I absolutely loved it

  • I'll go against the grain and say I hated it.  I really like Anne Hathaway and had heard great things about the movie.  But really, it was pretty boring for most of it.
  • I loved it and my H did too.  The music, the emotion, the characters - I thought it was brilliant.

  • Initially I didn't like it at all. But I couldn't stop thinking about it for a couple of days. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. Can't say I loved it, but it was a really good movie.

    Insert East's words here.

  • I usually love Anne Hathaway and I get what the movie was about and what kind it was but I was so bored I stopped watching halfway in.  I kept waiting for it to get interesting and it never did.

  • I absolutely loved it. I watched it without Mike because I figured he would hate it but then I made him watch it and he was all, "wow that was awesome" too. I thought her sister did a fantastic job as well. I wonder if it was tough for Anne to know (as a usually comedienne actress) that what she was acting was painfully drawn out and to just keep going. Stellar role for her.
