Teens are using high pitched frequencies on their cell phones to alert each other to texts/calls in school. Anyone over the age of 24 can't hear the ringtone.

We actually did an experiment in school today with a 16 year old, me (26), my boss (37) and the other ta (48-50ish).

Everything under 24 years old the teen could hear, but the rest of us couldn't. Once it hit 24 I could almost hear the tone, at 30 and under I could hear it plainly but the older two couldn't. 40 and under my boss could hear it, 60 and under the other coworker did. By the time they got to 60 the teen and I had our hands over our ears because it hurt so much, while the other two could barely hear it.

I just played with it with Dh, and sure enough the first time he heard it was the "39 and under" age group.

The first one I could hear was 30 and under.  And I'm 23.

Oh btw, the 18 and under got my dog's attention.  Her ears perked up as soon as I turned it on, but I couldn't hear it.

That is so wierd. My dogs just freaked out when I played those. I can't hear some of the 24 and under ones, and I am only 21. Should I take that as a bad sign?

We did a news thing on this at work! I work for an audiologist (hearing test/ hearing aids) its crazy what I could hear compared to my boss.

Oh I should have warned about that
No joke, we even had our two guinea pig kids fess up that they used this ringer to text during class to each other.

My cat ran over to the computer, dog didn't even notice the "all" tone.

I could hear a few of the 24 and under ones, but not all of them. I'm 24. Damn it!

I've done this before. I'm doing it again and my cats are going CRAZY. They can hear what I can't.

It's not 24 and under....it's whenever your ears go. There is an iphone app called "Annoy-a-teen" and you can get these annoying high pitched frequencies on your phone. You can mess around with them and see if you can hear them. I can hear them all.

I could hear the 30 year old one (I'm 31!) but not the 24.  DH could hear most of the 24 ones, though, and he's 29!

I wish my school was stricter about electronics. Cell phones have to be put away during class but can be used in between classes, before and after school. Ipods can be used during study hall or between classes.

I had to kick a kid out of the library the other day for trying to pick a fight over his phone. Can you be on your phone? Sure. Can you start harassing other people and remain in the library? No.

I can only hear down to the 24 and younger one and I have perfect hearing. Then again, T is making a lot of noise.

I could just BARELY hear the 24yr at 18khr, everything up from that I could hear plainly.

N is 24 and couldn't hear the 30s. Then again, he spent 27 months in Iraq with loud gunfire and bombs going off. Plus the 5 years in the Army total. His hearing has suffered.

yeah, my cats are not happy right now.  They were quietly laying on the floor and now are walking all over very agitated looking.  Funny!

I could barely hear the highest 24 year old one, the under 30 one was pretty easy.

I wish someone would do a study on kids hearing over the next 10 years because of earbuds/ear phones. They listen to their music really loudly and I can't believe it does good things when the speaker is literally in the ear.

IT has already gotten worse in the past 10 years or so. I can only imagine now as it just seems the music gets louder and lourder.

It makes me sad when I can hear the music through the earbuds which are in the students ears. I don't know, I don't like them in general. It annoyed me when everyone was walking around with ipods and earbuds at college. There are people and cars all around you, your hearing is an important sense to use for safety!

My husband couldnt hear it until one of the 30yr olds, he could "feel" the 24s though he claims but couldnt hear them, whatever that means!
