RD: invite officiant?

I have a "for hire" officiant that we are using for our wedding.  My question is are we supposed to invite him to the rehearsal dinner?  Just seems a little weird considering we don't really know him and have only met him once to book his services.  I thought that only personal/church ministers were usually invited to RD.

Re: RD: invite officiant?

  • I would extend the invite, just as you would with anyone else who attends your rehearsal. If your officiant is uncomfortable with attending, they have the option of declining. But that's just my own opinion, and I know others feel differently.
  • Agree with Opal.  We invited ours (and his wife), mainly because he took a lot of time to meet with us and attend the rehearsal.  They stayed for the reception, too.

  • Oh I forgot to add.  we are not having an official rehearsal, since our officiate is charging us $100 for that, so that is why i'm asking about the RD.

  • Oh, well, if he's not even at the rehearsal, no need to invite him. The RD is a thank-you to those who come to the rehearsal.

    I agree with this.

We had an officiant that's known H and I both since we were about 11, and I love that he was able to draw some personal stories into the ceremony. I mention this because if your officiant makes it to the RD, he/she will hear stories about you and your FI, and that will allow them to make your ceremony more personal.
