So, before I begin, I must state that I've been lurking here for a while, even though I'm not engaged. My bf of 5.5 years and I have talked about it quite a bit before I left WA (where we moved to from NY in 2007) for grad school in NC. He is still in WA, awaiting my return. Now that my program is more than half over and I have less than a year left, we are talking more. Yippeeeeee
I am really asking for feedback, preferably helpful and not hormon-induced (I said I was a lurker!). We both love WA and would love to get married out there, but realize if we do, there will be three additional people for the ceremony: my mother and his parents. That's all we'd expect with families that live in NY. We don't really want to get married in NY (as in, have the ceremony there) since we'd like to symbolically "begin" our lives together in WA, but really want to celebrate with our families!
What would you do?
A) ceremony and reception in NY, deal with it
ceremony and reception in a nearby state (ie: MA), deal with it better but have fewer people
C) ceremony and reception in WA, with 3 people
D) ceremony in WA and party in NY (is this allowed??)
