XP: Wedding Buffet

These are my choices for my wedding buffet:
-Salad, with two dressing choices-Rolls-Salmon with a sauce-Herb encrusted chicken-Whipped sweet potatoes-Green beans
They may take as much as they want, they can have both entrees and both sides, etc. Are these enough choices? I am being told that we need to have more side options. What do you guys think? TIA

Re: XP: Wedding Buffet

  • Looks fine to me. A veggie, a potato, and a salad are plenty of sides as long as you have a vegetarian option for those guests that need it.
  • Personally, I'd add maybe one or two more sides. You've got a nice variety of things - but maybe macaroni cheese or something else as a side?

But, I'm a really fussy eater... green beens have to be just so and I don't eat sweet potato ;)

  • I think that is plenty. you have some good choices there and a nice variety
  • I think that sounds like a good menu.  The only thing I don't see on there that you typically see at a buffett is a pasta type of dish.  However, you have potatoes, so you technically don't need another starch - it's just what sticks out to me as missing.

I would add another starch. Maybe rice? or Mac & Cheese like someone suggested. And I would also see about adding some sort of vegetable medley. Only offering sweet potatoes and green beans is pretty limiting. IMO

H doesn't eat sweet potatoes, and he's picky about green beans too.  I'd consider another side, maybe something that could also serve as a vegetarian main option?
  • all you need is a meat, a starch, and a vegetable...i think you're good, but maybe offer regular potatoes instead of sweet and a vegetable medley to appeal to more people...just a suggestion coming from a family of picky eaters OY!

  • This just made me really hungry :(
  • It's okay, but I'd suggest adding at least a vegetarian pasta dish that could serve as an additional side and/or vegetarian entree.  I think regular potatos might be safer than whipped sweet potatos also IMO.
  • Id say add one or two more things, if you can.  I am a picky eater also, and I would probably still be hungry or very hungry after that meal.

  • I would probably add another starch and veggie.  Maybe a rice pilaf or risotto and some type of vegetable medley.  I know quite a few people who don't like sweet potatoes OR green beans, so a couple more options wouldn't hurt.  However, if you want to keep it to 2 sides only, I'd recommend changing to plain mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley because that would probably be an option that's more likely to please everyone.

  • I suggest adding another side or two...like PP suggested, something that could serve as a vegetarian option would be good.  As much as I love sweet potatoes and green beans (as long as there's no pork/bacon in them), as a vegetarian, I think I'd still be hungry after dinner.

  • I think that looks amazing, but would suggest adding another starch and/or vegetable
FI hates sweet potates and seafood and isn't keen on green beans so his options on that menu would be limited
  • I have a lot of vegetarian friends, so I would add an additional veggie option...but think of your crowd!  I think your menu is well rounded, balanced, and sounds deleicious...don't let it stress you, though...your choices are great, and no one will leave hungry!
  • Sounds delicious to me, but I'd add a vegetarian entree of some kind since the sides aren't exactly enough if someone doesn't eat meat of any kind.

    Now I'm hungry.

  • As PPs said I would add a vegetarian option.  Also, I would add another starch or more universally liked one.  I don't like sweet potatoes, and I know quite a few others who don't.  Honestly at your reception I would probably eat a lot of salad, some green beans and maybe a small piece of chicken...any kind of breaded or crusted chicken can get gross very quickly in chaffing dishes in my opinion.

  • I would add more sides.   Your entrees sound yummy.

  • We do not have any vegetarians, as far as anyone in my immediate family or fiance's immediate family is aware of. I know his family is huge on hunting and meat. I would love to offer another side, but it'd cost $300-$450 extra for just one extra side. Our guest list is also much larger than we expected, so possibly spending this much on just one more side seems a little extravagant to me. We could consider changing the potato to mashed potatoes, I just know everyone of us that tried the sweet potatoes loved them. Also, the lady I've been working with that runs all of the weddings at that reception venue said most people choose green beans and sweet potatoes. Soo I don't know what to do! Am I being too stingy?
  • after I posted my reply I remember we had a salad course and duel plate of beef and crab cake, mashed potatoes and some a vegetable medley.   I guess my options were not much different.   Everyone seems happy.

** note we had 11 types of passed apps (some were vegetarian) , hand rolled sushi, raw bar, cheese tray for cocktail hour, so there was if someone left hungry it was their fault.
