Wording for program.

I need assistance with the wording for my wedding program.
First issue, our best man will not be at the ceremony because he will be serving our country in the US Army in Kuwait.  His name is going to be in the program but is there wording I can put under his name stating what I have said above?

Second issue, My MOH passed away in April and I am not replacing her.  Should I put under neither her name in memory? in memorium? (On the back of my program is a poem about her)

Thank you all for your help!

Re: Wording for program.

  • Oh no, I'm sorry for your loss.  That must be so hard :(

I think that it would be fine to state both things.

    Maybe:

    Best Man - Joe Schmoo
(currently serving the US ARMY in Kuwait)

    MOH - Mrs. Nesbit
(date of birth - date of death)

Just a thought... I'm sure that some of these ladies here can give some better advice.

If you need some military inspiration, check out my programs in my bio.

    Good luck!

  • For your best man, maybe you can use his title. Like "Sergeant Joe Jones, US Army" and underneath write something like "honorary" or "not standing" or "deployed." To indicate he isn't there.

For your MOH, I might do something like Salty mentioned. Or put "in memorium" or "honorary" under her name.

  • I would do something like this:

    Best Man
    Joe Schmo
    Lieutenant, United States Army
    serving honorably in Kuwait

    Maid of Honor
    the late Mrs. Molly Nesbit

If the best man is a Captain or above, his rank preceds his name and United States Army goes below it.  If he is a Lieutenant (first or second), it is the way I typed it above.  If he is enlisted you don't indicate his rank, just the "United States Army" part.

(My FI is also in the army.  If you have questions, feel free to PM me.)
