Intro-Thread (thanks for the idea Bunni!)

On the Suggestion of Bunni here is a little info on me......

Hello! I am antibride2013. I am getting married to a wonderful man on June 15, 2013. This will be my second marriage. I was married for 16 years prior. I have two boys, ages 12 and 9. They are big time into sports, and keep me very busy! I love it!

Professionally, I am a Hematologist. I primarily work with Leukemia and Lymphoma patients, bone marrow and stem cell transplant patients, and other blood cancer patients. I love my job, and hate my job.

I try to stay a kid at heart, fun loving and always positive. I mentally struggle with staying positive because I want to save everyone, but I can't. I do a great deal of charity work with the Leukemia & Lymphoma society. Side note-It only takes a swab from your cheek to be put in the Bone Marrow Donor database! Smile

I am having a small wedding, 50 close friends and family. Yes, as I have posted, doing the wedding thing becasue FH wants it. I love him immensely, and have been a good sport. I do however think all the money we have spent would be better served helping someone with no health insurance. Embarassed

So, that is a little about me. I am not mean or hateful. I will work on how I write things, because I have already learned how you post on here can easily be misinterpreted.

So hello to all.......

  • Welcome! That sounds like a very interesting job. I hope you can find some aspects of wedding planning to be fun!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Thanks Addie! Actually I am not minding too much the menu planning aspect. I am a foodie.....and trying all sorts of yummy treats has been quite enjoyable for my tummy! (Not so much for my butt though)!
  • Antibride, do you mind if I throw my intro in here with yours? I've mostly been posting on NEY since '09 (old account acted all wonky) but I've posted a few times on here.

H and I got married on 11/6/10 and now I pretty much hang around to give random bits of advice and have a good laugh. I'm a 4th year doctoral candidate in neurogenetics and I work on pediatric degenerative diseases. We adopted a beagle mix 3 years ago and I love her to pieces. I posted this in another thread, but I was recently diagnosed with endo and I really don't know where I stand fertility-wise yet, but H and I would like to have children someday. Hmm... what else?
    Here's my favorite wedding photo!

[QUOTE]Thanks for the into ladies! Good to know about being a marrow donor. LaSak can we be dissertation buddies? I need to be writing instead of knotting.

YES! I'm at the point where I desperately need motivation because if I don't finish soon, I'm going to lose my mind. What do you do?

  • Ditto thanks on the donation info. I had been curious for a bit my dad had registered and had a donation opportunity come up right before our wedding... I know it would have been more stress on him right before hosting such an event at his home, but I was kinda disappointed it fell through. I'll have to remember to ask him more about the process now!

Ahh....the good ol dissertation days......Yeah, I am glad that's over for me! Good Luck ladies!
  • I'm hoping to be done by the end of this year, but having surgery held me back a little so it might end up being next spring. Most of what I do depends on how well the mice are breeding and this is a bad time of year for that. DH's project is kind of in the ecology field, but he studies bacteria and viral diversity in the Chesapeake Bay marine life. I'm jealous that his work lets him hang out on a boat.

Great info! And great to hear your dad is registered! There have been many many cases where patients are litterally on their last breaths. Donors were found and saved their lives.

  • Your job sounds really neat. Do you have a venue picked out?

My job is rewarding and challenging, but I love it. We are having the wedding at our house. No venue. However the tent will have A/C if my life depends on it! June in Kentucky. We are hiring a personal chef to cater. That has been the funnest part, and challenging part.

Ahh, I'm well acquainted with June in KY.

We were talking to a couple about our wedding once and mentioned that it was going to be outside, and they went completely pale. They looked like we were harbingers of mosquitoes and fried doom.

I had to very quickly add that it was in early May under a covered pavilion with lots of shade trees and no standing water.

  • Welcome antibride! No worries, I don't think you are mean, and I'm sure nobody actually does. We like to roll up our shirt sleeves and have at it sometimes on the boards, but everyone here is actually very good natured (it's why we try to give advice to help people). Not only that, but it's not uncommon to have a rough transition period when you're new and nobody knows you.

Liatris, I'm totally jealous of people that work with turtles too! I wanted to be a Marine Biologist in college, but got chased off by a seriously grouchy chemistry teacher who flat out told me I didn't belong in science and that he'd fail me (I think I answered a question wrong on his 'getting to know you' questionnare or something).
