Mandatory gift, uninvited, demand invitation back drama

Just when you think you've heard all the possible wedding dramas, I ran across this one on Wedding Bee. I can only say: "Wow"

http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/maditory-gift-for-bach-party-uninvited-from-wedding-ask-for-wedding-gift-back?replies=145

This poor lady was invited to a wedding. The MOH threw a bachelorette, invited this lady and told her she HAD to buy a particular expensive gift or she could not attend the bachelorette. When she did not buy the gift (and did not attend the party), the bride uninvited her from the wedding and demanded she return the wedding invitation. When the lady did not immediately respond to the demand by trotting over to turn in the invitation, the bride's mother called this lady's mother and said they'd call the police if she didn't return the invitation! They also have this lady's wedding gift that she sent, and have made no offers or effort to return it.

I'm not the strictest person on etiquette, but I am pretty sure that the bride, the MOH, and her mother have violated at least a few of the finer points...

Crazy!!!

Re: Mandatory gift, uninvited, demand invitation back drama

  • I agree with Stage it's got to be a MUD. A bad one at that.

I'm laughing at the thought of someone calling the police over this.

Police: - " Police dept how may I help you?"
BSC person " I woul like to report a stolen invitation"
Police - "How was it stolen? Did they break into your home? Your car?"
BSC person "I sent it to them in the mail"

I'm no lawyer, but I'm fairly certain an invite recieved in the mail becomes the property of the reciever. Assuming, of course, it was addressed to the person.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • It reads pretty real to me from the OP's postings (this one and others). Although yes, in terms of the plot it seems too crazy to be real!

I can't imagine they'll actually call the police - they must realize how totally cray-cray that would be...
  • I saw that over there also and the way it read, it seemed pretty real. I can't believe they are threatening police action though. These people belong on extreme Bridezillas.
  • I just read that entire thread. I hope so much that its made up but I agree that it reads pretty real. But I kind of hope the bride does call the police. It would be pretty entertaining.
  • Is anyone else weirded out that the bride was having her boudoir shoot done at the bach party? Maybe I'm just a huge prude (and I totally am), but it seems inappropriate and uncomfortable and awkward for everyone to hang out and wait while the bride dresses up in 9 different sets lingerie and the MOH takes her pictures. That would be to portion of the evening I spend staring at my phone and silently downing drinks.

Also, I feel bad for the OP. When I read the original post it sounded like the MOH was the real problem, and the bride was just an idiot, but now geez. Sounds like the two are twisted, selfish soulmates.
  • If this story is to be believed, this bride, MOH, and MOB are some of the rudest human beings I have ever heard of.

Sidenote: All of the b-party guests were supposed to bring pre-selected lingerie so the bride could do a boudoir photo shoot that night. Am I the only one who washes lingerie before I put it on? Gross.

Who the heck does a boudoir shoot at her b-party anyway? Mine (boudoir shoot, not b-party) was just me and a friend snapping the pictures and I still had to fortify myself with wine to go through with it.

  • I would mail the invitation back, torn up in little pieces. Like a total psycho.
