Tipping

Which vendors do we tip? The venue does not include the tip and it is left up to us for the amount I am also aware that we tip the driver, priest, and church musician. Do we tip the photographers? Band? Florist? Cake? I think that is all the vendors we are using.

Thanks!

Right now we are budgeting tips for everyone, and we will decide at a later date who is getting tipped and how much. We plan to tip the photographers, DJ, our DOC, florist, H and MU girls, and limo driver. Our priest doesn't accept tips but we're making a gift to the church. The venue has gratuity built in. We're also not differentiating between vendors who own their own business and those who do not. All the same to us. Hope this helps!
  • I think I would tip anyone who provided services as opposed to goods.  So, I would tip caterers, musicians/DJs, and photographers, but not florists or bakers.  But they may build gratuities into their contracts.  So may venues.

The rule is that business owners are not tipped, but I'd write them a note of thanks as well as recommendations for their businesses if they did especially good jobs.

<div>What about the people that deliver the flowers or cake? We tipped those people a small amount, depending on how much they had to carry in.</div>
  • I should have clarified. We're tipping the delivery people. I agree with the services vs goods. I don't agree with the "rule" about not tipping business owners. I used to until another knottie here, might have been Stage, expressed a different point of view. Say your photographer owns his own business, but your DJ does not. You tip the DJ because presumably, the company owner will take a share. However, your photographer has overhead expenses like rent, insurance, payroll etc, that the DJ doesn't have. They don't really get to pocket all that money like people think. That's why we plan on budgeting tips for all vendors and are not making a distinction.
