Initial Calls to Florists?

Good morning, all....

I need to book a florist but I have no idea how to go about beginning this process!  I figure you can't just call and ask for prices, right (since I dont know exactly what I'll be getting)?

What do I ask on the phone (after "are you available" of course)?  I dont know why this is stressing me out so much!

  • They will need to know what flowers you are using in order to give you a quote. I would suggest figuring what flowers you want first or at least getting a basic idea. Beacuse you can get 100 daisies for way cheaper than you can get 100 peonies.

  • I just asked if they are available on my date and when I could come in for a consultation. You're right that there isn't much they can do over the phone, unless you know specifically what you want, so going in person is the next best step.

  • I called and scheduled a consultation if there were available on my date and then brought in pictures of things I liked to the meeting.

I also calculated my budget so that they can work with my design intent and stay within that budget.

Ditto Vally. The one other thing you may want to know is if they're ballpark in your budget--so if you want to ask on the phone "Is it possible for you to do a wedding for X money?" or something like that you can. Although I waited to do my busget until after I consulted with folks and got some quotes.
  • I met with four florists.  I ended up choosing one in the middle of the price range because of ideas and my comfort with him.  The florist is one vendor that I did a lot more on gut instinct than anything else.
