Looking for some help STAT!

So....

Say you have a friend who JUST found out that she's pregnant and that friend is also going to go out with her friends to celebrate her birthday and she's nervous about letting the cat out of the bag so soon.

Any tips on how this friend can avoid the "Why aren't you drinking?" questions?

  • have her drive you and be the DD?  or DD for another friend?

  • Yep, DD is the way to go here.

  • Tell the waitress discreetly to make her drinks without booze.   Make sure the colors are the same, vodka with sprite/7up, rum with coke, ect.  But she'll probably have to fake acting drunk at some piont.
  • On antibiotics for a recent sickness and can't mix them with booze or she'll get really sick.
  • Yeah....her husband will be driving her...and he knows. :-)
  • Antibiotics is a great idea.

And well...the friends know that she's been trying so they may just ask questions.

So now how to handle questions without blushing....
  • ooh.  I like the antibiotics one :).  Or she could just say no, she doesn't feel like and change the subject without answering the question of why... Bean dip anyone?
  • With the husband there they can just order the same drink and casually rotate them every once in a while so it looks like she is drinking too, but its really him drinking for 2.

My bro and SIL did this and it worked.  its best if its a dinner not bar hopping.

  • Bean dip will definitely come in handy!!
  • I'd go the on a medication (doesn't have to specifiy - could be anything) at the moment that doesn't mix with alcohol.

I say that all the time - of course, it's true, and I'm not pregnant, but no one questions it.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • That is a hard subject not to show emotion about when avoiding the questionss.  congrats and good luck to your friend!

  • I - I mean she will have to try that.
  • They are your friends so you know them best but I like the anitbiotics as well. Or you can say you're trying to shed a few pounds so your taking a hiatus from the booze. I am actually doing that and everyone seems to be fine with it.

     BTW IF you're pregnant congratulations!
  • Antiobiotics (for a sinus infection if anyone asks further). But if your friends know you were trying, that's likely to not fool anyone :-)
  • Yeah - the concern is that the friends know that this was something on the agenda.  :-)

And well...this is SO freakin' new that I don't know how to handle it just yet.
  • :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hmm, well I've heard "mag" used as an abbreviation for a magnum or a magazine. Babygun just doesn't sound right. Babypamphlet? I suck at this.

  • Congrats !!!!  That is so exciting.

I have no advice.  If I got pregnant there is no way I could hide it because they would figure it out as soon as I ordered an non-alcoholic drink.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Congrats...Like others said I would probably go with the antibiotics, but if friends know you are trying they might figure it out!

  • Late joining, but CONGRATS!!!  And I was wondering, as I read through the thread, how long it would take people to realize. Go for the drink switching routine.
