Re: Would you wear this dress outside?

  • In my opinion, not really. Looks too formal.

  • Nope.  I second Dudley and Duds.

  • I agree with PP's. That is a very indoors dress.

  • ok, thanks ladies. I went dress shopping with my mom today and this was her pick, and of course, I fell in love. My venue can be in or outside - originally, we were going to have the ceremony outside and reception inside, but this dress has me rethinking, because I also thought this was a more sophisticated (I'm not sure that's the right word to use) look then what I was planning for an outside wedding.

  • It is possible to have a sophisticated outdoor wedding. Not all outdoor weddings are casual.
  • Ya'll have a point. I had it on for about 30 minutes today and it seemed really lightweight and didn't seem warm or too clingy, but the wedding is in May.
Hmm, I may just move the ceremony inside...

  • I think that depending on how you accesorize it and what your flowers look like, it could definitely be an outdoor dress.  If it's comfortable and love it, that means a lot.  It's a beautiful dress.
  • well, my *original plan* was to have a very airy dress, pink bm dresses with yellow gerber daisies, and me with pink gerbers. now im thinking calla lilies with this dress. just dont know how to incorporate the pink and yellow (i know the center of the callas are yellow)... I may just start all over, because I really do love this dress. When I looked in the mirror I had the biggest smile and started tearing up.

  • I have a formal dress and I am getting married outside. It's really about the atmosphere not about where it's indoor or outdoor in my opinion.

  • For a formal garden party, yes!
  • I think it would be totally fine... but then, most weddings are outdoor here and thus casual dresses are not always the norm.
  • This is my dress!  I got tears when I tried it on too, and just knew, "This is the dress."  I had been mostly trying on "destination dresses" prior to finding this one.

I'm not having an outdoor wedding, but I probably would have still chosen it if I was going to have an outdoor wedding.  For me, it's about wearing what you want to wear.  I am going to have the netting underneath taken out, and I'll probably have the train cut off, but I'm not sure yet.

If you love it, you should get it, in my opinion.
  • "Outside" doesn't mean "casual." An outdoor wedding CAN be casual, but it can also be quite formal. When I got married the first time, the ceremony was outdoors on the grounds of a mansion overlooking a river; the cocktail hour and reception were inside the mansion. It was a Saturday night formal wedding (black tie optional with most guests in tuxes and gowns) and my gown actually had a cathedral length train (detachable so I removed it for the reception). How formal the wedding is depends on a lot of factors, but you could have a very formal outdoor wedding if you want.

Oh and I think the dress is pretty.
  • Ok. So I slept on the idea and this is my "maybe new plan".
this dress, outside wedding, calla lilies, flameless candles going down the aisle (probably something pretty to put them in to hide that they are flameless), around 7pm (may wedding, so sun sets later), and still working on bms.

I feel like I'm backtracking, but I guess its ok since I've got ~9 months.

  • For a formal garden wedding (paving stones, manicured shrubbery, sculptures and fountains), yes.

For a wedding in a meadow or on a farm (uneven ground, guests sitting on haybales, wildflower bouquets), no.
  • I think it would look great, it's simple and fitted

  • hell no. the fabric alone is too fancy for an outdoor event.

  • I think rules are out the window when it comes to picking "your dress". If you love it, buy it. You will never really be satisified unless you do.
