Reception Only Invitations

I'm planning on only inviting my family and super close friends to my wedding. Now Fiance is worried that it will be rude not to invite certain people, so he wants to have the wedding far away. Which I would rather not do...

To avoid having to re-locate somewhere far away, I had an idea to have the wedding (with private ceremony and reception) on a seperate day than the (invite all) reception. How could I word an invite so that people aren't offended and so that they know we already got married and are just having a small get together to celebrate?

It wont be anything formal. In fact I was thinking a picnic in the park a few days after the actual wedding. Any ideas would be helpful since I am in the early early planning stages. Thanks!

Just have a regular summer BBQ a few weeks after your wedding. Don't even make it about your wedding, just a party with all your friends.

Send out wedding announcements after you get married so family and friends know the deed was done, and then ditto PP, just have a party a few weeks later to get everyone together.

I agree with CMGr.

I just wanted to point out that if you host a party after your wedding, you shouldn't expect gifts at said party.

What is your reasoning for wanting to do this?
