NWR: Does your FI/H have tattoos?

H got a new tattoo yesterday and now I've got the tattoo bug... which I have been keeping at bay for 5+ years now

So, does your man have any tattoos? What of?

Do you like them? Why or why not?

Do you have any together/for each other?  Would you ever?

    Nope.

I think they're fine, if they have meaning to them.

I don't think we ever would because we both hate needles so much.

Neither of us have any tattoos.  I think we'd consider it if it was something meaningful to us (either one for each other or an individual one) but so far haven't come across anything.

Yes, he has two.  one on the inside of his forearm of Curious George as a space monkey, and one on the opposite shoulder with his brothers initials and his birth/death dates.

I like them - they're both very representitive of different aspects of him.

We don't have any together, and I don't think we would.  I only want to get one tattoo, and it's for me, not him.

H has 4 tattoos now w/ the new one.  I like 2 of them and I dont like 2.  The ones I like are his new one- which is a song lyric + name piece for our daughter on his chest- and a big celtic cross on his bicep.  I dont like his Irish shamrock or navy tattoos but he's in the process of re-doing/covering both of them up so I'm hoping I'll like the end results better.

We will eventually get something togehter/for each other.... they are just so damn expensive!

Mike has one. It's his fire dept. sheild. A bunch of other guys from his company have it and he is close with them all. I don't mind it, because it can be easily covered (on his upper arm) and wouldn't mind if he got others so long as they can be covered too.

I like tattoos, but I think they tend to have a casual feel. I don't want to see them when he is all dressed up.
  • Options

Yes he has 2. Neither are big, one is on his leg, one on his shoulder.

I have 6. 2 of which are pretty large and colorful.

We both like each others' and would like to get more.  But would never do one together (i.e. same tattoo) or for each other. I'm not fond of portrait or name tattoos. The closest thing to that I have is a Dia de los Muertos tattoo with 4 flowers & 2 birds--the flowers are all my grandparents' birth month flowers (they are all deceased) and the birds represent my great-grandma and my one cousin who died when we were babies. I'd be much more likely to get a representation of someone than a name or photo.

He doesn't have any as of yet but he's been itching to get one. He wants to get a pin-up style girl that looks like me. I thinks its a little weird haha but what-evs it his body.

I have a full back tattoo and plan on at least 2 more. One of a red ribbon for diabetes (sister is diabetic, whole family plans to get this) and heart around my ankle with my brothers and sister's names. If you can't tell I'm super close with all my siblings.

ETA: I don't think I would ever get a tattoo with FI (same or similar) to me it's a relationship ending curse haha

schlag- ohh a firefighter one sounds sexy IMO

and yes, I hate dressing up and seeing a big tattoo but like I've heard people say before- and I sort of agree- if you love it enough to tat is on your body you should love it enough for people to see it.  Being ashamed = shouldnt be there.

Yep, he has two.. I guess.  His nickname on the back of one arm, a skateboarding/graffiti type half sleeve on his other arm which I guess is technically more than one tattoo but I count it as one big one.

Yes, they are all meaningful to him.  If it makes him happy, whatever!

No, I'm too superstitious.  I think it's bad luck.

ETA- I have 6 of my own. One of which is pretty big.  I want more.

Tim's chest is covered as is one of his legs from the knee down. I personally think it's sexy as hell. He's planning to gradually get more and that's fine with me.

I have a bunch of tattoos that I totally regret. There's only one that I'd actually keep. Eventually I'll have them removed.

He doesn't have any and doesn't like them. I have one, which he's clearly fine with and supports, but he's just not that into them in general.

I like some tattoos but am not a huge fan of lots of tattoos, poorly done ones or ones that seem like they were chosen off the wall of the tattoo parlor at random.

I wouldn't ever get anything like his name, but I could imagine in the future getting something that represented our family including future kids - don't have plans to, but never say never.

I have 2 and am getting a third soon, H doesn't have any. He says he thinks about it occasionally. He wants either a wolf on his shoulder blade (which, oddly enougn, is exactly what my dad has and he didn't even know that) or his Cherokee name (Earth Keeper). I have my Cherokee name on my back and he loves the look of it.

I would love for him to get one. He would look damn sexy with a tattoo. But we would never get one together. My dad got his third wife's name on his arm and when they divorced he had to get a huge tattoo to cover it up. No, thank you.

MH has 2 tattoos, one is a compass and one is a crest with a lion.

I like them although I hardly notice them they just blend in. He regrets them though.

So, does your man have any tattoos? What of? Yes, one or two depending on how you look at it.  He got the first one while drunk in New Orleans (score!) and he got the second one a few years later, but they "go together."

Do you like them? Why or why not? I'm undecided.  I forget about them most of the time and then I'll catch a glimpse and be like "oh damn, there they are."

Do you have any together/for each other?  Would you ever? No.

So, does your man have any tattoos? What of? Nope, neither of us have any tattoos.

Do you like them? Why or why not? I think they are okay on other people depending on the design. Some tattoos that I see are just tacky and obnoxious.

Do you have any together/for each other?  Would you ever? Neither of us will ever get a tattoo. I have a huge fear of needles (I don't even like to get a flu shot) and H has been stuck with so many needles because of his heart condition and blood thinners that I don't think he'd welcome extra stabs just for the sake of body art.

So, does your man have any tattoos? What of? Two.  One on his chest of an alchemical symbol, and one on his left shoulder blade of a redheaded angel wrapped in the Irish flag.  He got them both before I dated him.

Do you like them? Why or why not? I don't mind the alchemical one...the angel one is just sort of weird when he rolls over in bed and it's like "HI" right there in my face.

Do you have any together/for each other?  Would you ever? No.  I'm not sure.  If I did it would be very small and out-of-the-way.  Both of us don't believe in having tattoos in areas that can't be hidden -- I don't think I'd retain my current job if I couldn't hide my tattoo.

Yes. He has a dragon on his leg, a tattoo for his mom on his left bicep and a tattoo for family on his left bicep.

Do you like them? Why or why not?
    I love them.

Do you have any together/for each other?  Would you ever?
No we don't and no. The closest that I would ever come is when I get my Om tattoo on my foot, I'm going to surround it with the same sort of cherry blossoms he has around one of his arm tattoos.

He has maybe twelve or thirteen. Am I horrible that I don't remember? lol. Some of his are family name in Korean and then dragons and stuff. I have 21 now and I'm working on finishing my entire back before the wedding. It's half done and looks really stupid peaking out the top of my dress, so I have to get it finished so it at least looks like something other than a jumble of colors and such.

As far as getting one for each other. He says he sill never do it again because he doesn't like the pain anymore, but I might get a small music note to represent him because his name is Sung.

Neither of us have tatoos.  I've never come across anything that was important enough to me to have it permanently put on my body.  If there was something I did want, I'd probably consider it, although definitely in a place that could be covered by all everyday clothing.

My H has two- one I like (cross on inner forearm) and one I hate (this).

The person who did this one did a shitty job- he's facing backwards, he's too small for his arm, and he didn't fill in his eyes. I want him (and he wants) to get it covered somehow, but it's not a priority.

I would never get matching tats or tats for each other. I think that's stupid.

He has one on his left shoulderblade. It doesn't mean anything, was just a random "We're in college, let's go get a tattoo" with his best friend, lol. I still like it though.

I want to get one for him. I'm sitting on it for a couple years to make sure I really want to get it, and it won't be names or anything, just something more symbolic.

H doesn't have any tattoos, but I know he plans on getting them soon.  Its an old Navy superstition that a pig and a rooster on your feet keep you from drowning, so I'm pretty confident he will come back from his deployment with them.  I think there are much better looking things he could get than a pig and rooster, but I understand the tradition and superstition.

I have one of my own from high school that i don't regret, but I'm glad its on my hip so nobody sees it unless I show them.  I actually forget all the time that I have one unless someone talks about tattoos.  Once in a while I get an itch to get another one but I can never think of something I would want enough.

I don't think we would ever get anything of eachother or together.  Haha I have a friend whose dad has an ex-girlfriends name on his arm and we have never let him live it down.  To this day I still ask him how Linda is anytime I see him.

BF has a chinese symbol on the back of his calf that says strength.
My grandma asked if he was German, she thought it was a swastika.

He also has an ace of clubs on his forearm.  He's a big poker player.

I don't have any, but I want a tree of life on my back, with leaves falling for loved ones that have passed.

BF wants a pin-up of me.  I have been slowly convincing him his is a bad idea.
Alainn15 - That's a really neat idea with the music note, it's not obvious what it stands for and you wouldn't have to explain it to anyone. I always hate when people ask me to explain the meaning of my tattoo. I got it for me and it's not an easy thing to explain.
    Posted by mgietler76
I get this. I have my daughters name on my arm, but it isn't exactly readable without an explanation. People are constantly asking me what it is and then they want to see if they can find all the letters. It's annoying sometimes, but thats what I get for getting something thats needs explaining. The pic is sideways, if you rotated it right it would be upright.

Mine is a cross with a spider-web around it and a little spider hanging off the bottom of the cross (hard to describe and I have no pics of it) and it covers my entire back. I didn't think it was one of those tattoo's that people would ask me for a meaning, I guess I was wrong.

Yes, he has two.  One is the symbol for the Jimmy V foundation and the other is a large cross (both on his leg).  I think they are fine.  The cross is usually not visible because it is pretty high up on his leg.  The V is pretty hard to see because it is red and might be a bit faded.

I won't ever get one.  As Phoebe or Rachel (Friends) once said, I would not pay someone to give me a scar.  I don't have my ears pierced either.  It's just a personal preference.  I don't mind if other people have them although when I see someone with a lot of very visible tattoos, I often wonder how they could deal with the pain and if they are sure they want to have them forever.
