cake problems

Our reception is at a buffet in las vegas and i dont know if we hsould order a wedding cake or not. FI and I definitely want to cut a cake and have wedding cake...we were going to use the wedding cake a party favor. But thinking about it, no one is going to want to carry around a box of cake on the strip after the reception and unless they go right back to the hotel, itll probably be thrown away.

FI thinks we should get a small cake for us to cut, but I feel like itd be rude to cut cake in front of people and not give them any...even though there are tons of dessert options. Considering all of the dessert options, im guessing people wont even want our boring cake, but still dont want to be rude.

We are doing welcome bags so I was thinking of put individual cupcakes in the bags for guests and giving them wedding cake early?

what would you do?

Re: cake problems

  • Have cake or cupcakes as dessert, not a favor. Then people get to eat it and not carry it around.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

If you cut a cake in front of your guests, you need to have enough to offer it to them. Now, you can make the top layers styrofoam and serve sheet cake from the back to your guests, as long as you offer them the cake. I agree that most will not want to take the cake home of they are going out after. You could still box it up though. They have the option of eating it there or taking it.

    Edited for clarity.
  • Will the buffet not let you bring the cake in there to serve to guests while they are eating? Worst case scenario, I'd bring  boxes of cupcakes and put them on a dining table for people to grab.

I know it's your wedding and all, but the cake is one of my favorite parts so I'd be wicked jealous of your yummy confection if I didn't get one too.

  • I think she is worried people won't want it then and there b/c of all the other dessert options on the buffet. OP, I am with Muppet. I don't care what kind of deliciousness is on that buffet, I WILL WANT WEDDING CAKE! (and deliciousness from the buffet)

When I have cake, I do not wait to eat cake. I eat cake immediately. It will not be a hinderance to my gambling, I will consider it "lucky cake".

<div>Thanks Addie, I was super confused about her concern.  </div><div>
</div><div>Let them eat cake at the location.  No matter what is offered, I'll choose wedding cake every time (once I even forgot about an ice cream station because I was so excited for wedding cake!)</div>

</div><div>Hehe. Lucky cake. That really cracked me up. That's awesome.</div><div>
</div><div>I would definitely offer a bit of cake or cupcakes. It is my very favorite part of wedding meals. It was also the ONLY thing I might have been a little Bridezilla-ish about, but H didn't object to what I wanted :)</div>
