Trying on wedding gowns

When you go to somewhere like David's Bridal and you have an appointment how many dresses is to many to try on. I have 22 dresses I want to try on is that to many?

Re: Trying on wedding gowns

  • Try on as many as you want.
  • They might limit you to an amount or a certain length of time.  I would probably take 5 or so at a time in with you, because 22 could just be overwhelming.  I only tried on 5 dresses total though, and knew I was buying the 2nd one I put on the moment I put it on, so I might not have the best ideas.

  • I tried on countless dresses at DB. Some stores limit how many you can take in at one time. I made a list of style numbers and grabbed a catalog to help the very sweet girl who was waitingon on me. It helps to go at off hours too (i.e. not on the weekend) if you want to take more into the room. Good luck!

  • Never been to DB but appointments were requird everywhere.

At the start of each appt, the bride mentioned the style and shade and they brought our 4 or 5 at a time

  • They may not even have all 22 of the gowns you want to try on at any given store.

  • I had gotten my dress about a month ago from DB.  I tried on five dresses but was there for a couple hours.  I would also recommend going on non-peak hours as the first half hour was waiting for our consultant.  You can only take five dresses at a time but as you dismiss dresses you can bring more in.

  • I do know you might not want to try all 22 on in one stop.  My cousin said that trying on even 10 dresses got overwhelming and they all started to blur together in her head. So, maybe pick a few and then go back another day to try on more.
  • The most I've tried on in one day was about 14. And that was between two different shops. It's gets a little tiring after a while. And once you've put on a few, you can get a little clouded in which ones you really liked or which ones are better than other, etc.

If DB carries all 22 that you want to try on, consider spacing it out over a couple (or more) days. Just try to book with the same consultant each time.

  • I think 22 is a little ambitious. You will probably tire out after about 10, at least in my experience. You would have to be there for hours to try on 22! They may limit your appt. if it's a busy day and they have another one scheduled for that consultant after you. I didn't get my gown there, but when we had an appt. for BM dresses, they told me we had 1.5 hours. We went on a weekday evening too. So I doubt you'll get to do all 22.

  • are they all the different styles? (mermaid, ball gown, a line) if so, I would suggest starting with 1 or 2 of each style- so like if you try on a ball gown and dont like how it fits on you, you may be able to knock 7 dresses off of that list. or you may start w a mermaid realize you love that fit and thats what you want, and have 6 mermaids on that list.

def this! I tried on maybe three styles and bought the second one I tried on. In and out in a half and hour no less!  :)

  • I just went to DB last week, and my personal experience was that while 22 dresses might not be that bad (depends on how long you want to stand and look at yourself!) even though i had an appointement and thought I was going on kind of an "off-time," (3pm on a weekday), the lady who was "helping" me, was clearly also helping several other people at the same time! So I ended up standing there in each dress for like 15 minutes while she helped other people and THEN went and found the next dress I wanted! So, in my case it took more than 2 hours to try on like 9 dresses...grr.

BUT, regardless, I am super-happy because I did end up getting one of them!

  • At the DB by me they do 1.5 hr appointments and the attendent has two brides at the same time to help. They also arn't supposed to have more then 3 dresses in the room at a time. So getting through 22 in that situation would be very ambitious.

This is also what I would suggest. For instance, I was all excited about sheaths and then realized that my body disagrees with me about them. Same with plain or stretchy fabrics.

  • 22 sounds like a lot of dresses.  I'd go on a week day when the place is less busy and see if you can get through as many as they have in the store (they might not have all in your size there).

    Good luck!

I agree with a PP that said you might want to group them by styles to possibly eliminate some of your choices all together. I can't imagine that 22 dresses are all that similar that you couldn't eliminate a few.  Personally, I tried on my dress 1st, didn't try any others on, and bought it, so I may not have the best advice.  However, I think more than around 10 gets overwhelming and confusing.
