To bra or not to bra under the dress?

I need to figure out my underthings (tee hee) before my fitting in two weeks. Do you think I should wear a longline bra with this dress, or just get cups sewn in? I'm a small-ish 34B, if that makes a difference. I've never worn a longline bra before, but since the back of the dress is so low, I think it'd be my only option.

This. They're attached to the dress so everything is one big piece. You don't have to worry about what the bra is doing.

I tried on some dresses with a long line bra underneath and hated the way it made me look. I'm rather petite, so the added bulk of the bra around my ribs was really noticeable under the sleeker dresses. Since you're thin you may have the same problem.

My dress has light cups in the top and I'm wearing a pair of control underwear that go up to where my bra would be to just smooth everything. I'm super comfy in it.

  • Could you try on the dress with a long-line bra and if it shows through switch to cups?

I think I'm doing cups, but my dress has a built-in corset, no long-line necessary.
  • Lovely dress!  I agree--cups are the way to go.  So easy, I didn't have to worry about anything.

I like NuBras as well, but just as an FYI, if it is really hot out, they make you sweat and the adhesive will lose its stickiness.  I learned this the hard way at an outdoor wedding in Hawaii!
  • Definitely have cups sewn in.

  • I am an advocate of not wearing a bra whenever possible.

  • I am around the same size as you, and I went for the long line bra because it was more secure (although I went strapless). I considered cups, but the bra can give more "lift." Apparently the groomsmen both commented to my husband that my boobs were really nice at the wedding, lol. (Classy, right?)

You could also do one of those 100 ways bras that you can adjust to having a low back.
  • If you were bigger than a B (but not too much bigger!) I'd say cups.

However, I am also a B cup and I know that sometimes a bra is required to give some lift/appearance of actual breasts, ha. So, I am thinking that a bra is probably a good idea, but it's really about your comfort and what you'd prefer.
