Groom Cake

Dumb Question. Who eats the groom's cake at the wedding? I like the idea of that am thinking of having one but I wasn't sure who actually eats that cake? I don't want it to look like a tiered wedding where just he or the chosen few get to eat it.

what's the etiquette on this one?

Re: Groom Cake

  • anyone who wants to should be able to eat the groom's cake.

  • Every one I've been to, it gets cut when they cut the regular cake, and served as another flavor option. So whoever wants some.

  • I surprised my FI with it at the rehearsal dinner. It was served as our dessert. It was a redsox cake and he loved it!
  • I don't know if it's a regional thing, but I had my groom's cake at our rehearsal dinner.
    Enjoy!

  • I think it's usually a Southern tradition. I've never heard of the grooms cake being served at any event except for the reception, until the Knot that is. I guess it's tradition here in Alabama to have the cake at the reception because it's supposed to be the cake that represents that groom and it's usually a dark colored cake (most of the time chocolate). Grooms cakes are cut and served at the same time as the wedding cake, like PP said. It might just be where I live or a Southern tradition but during my wedding planning more people have asked what the grooms cake is going to be and look like than they have the wedding cake. Unlike the PP's I could never imagine serving the grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner
