A piano

My neighbors got a piano.  Someone plays it in the evening about now and is really terrible.  I'm not allowed to say that their piano annoys me when I don't know these people, am I?  Their apartment is attached to 2 of the 3 rooms in my apartment.

This person has terrible time and is playing She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain right now in a manic kind of way.

  • Le sigh.  Hopefully they'll be done soon.

  • I hear ya on the noise issues in apartments...  My upstairs neighbors do god-knows-what at 3, 4, 5am on a pretty regular basis.  Sometimes it's playing the guitar or drums, sometimes it sounds like they're drunk and playing "the floor is lava."  What I wouldn't give for just a couple hours a day of piano practice.  ;-)
  • Ahh apartment living. It will always be something. Right now I think my upstairs neighbours are practicing their wrestling. We try not to talk to any neighbours so if something is really loud and after 10pm (like our next door neighbours screaming at each other from the parking lot and their balcony) we will either call the police or go directly to the office. I would say if it's hours and hours and close to a bedroom I would say something to someone, but most likely you'll just have to wait it out and see if it goes past "quiet time".

  • That's kind of adorable.

There are lots of different apartment noises that I can't stand (dogs being a big one - please entertain your dog so that he doesn't get bored and bark all day) but I usually really like living near musicians. I used to have an opera singer on the floor below me, and currently it's a guy who plays the guitar sharing my east wall. I think it's from growing up with my brother and hearing him practicing all the time, but there's something nice about a neighborhood full of music.

She'lll Be Comin' Round the Mountain, though... that might be a form of terrorism.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • If it makes you feel any better, my across the hall neighbour now seems to be taking piano AND violin lessons. Bad violin is worse than bad piano. Trust me.

  • I think the only thing worse than bad violin might be bad clarinet.
