Schools paying for good grades? WDYT?

I'm reading TIME and there's an article about a scientist who did an experiment on schools paying students for different things. Here's a quick run-down:

Dallas:
Second graders, paid $2 per book they read and passed a reading comprehension quiz. Very positive result; reading comprehension scores went up dramatically.

Chicago:
Ninth graders, $50 for every A, $35 for every B, $20 for C's. Mixed results, fewer students cut class and got slightly better grades, but standardized test scores didn't improve.

Washington:
6th, 7th, and 8th graders, Perfect marks in the categories of five different metrics, including good behavior and attendance, received $100 ever two weeks. Positive results in behavior.

NYC:
4th and 7th graders, $25 to 4th graders and $50 to 7th graders per test for passings scores. No effect at all; better grades did not occur across the board.

So. WDYT?
