First Fitting?

When did you guys go in for your first fitting?  The bridal salon told me to come in 2 months before (and my dress is pretty simple, I'd just need the hem taken up and stuff).  That seems early to me, plus I was hoping to try and drop some more weight by a month before the wedding.

Re: First Fitting?

  • I think mine was about 2 months out, but I had 3 different fittings and they were pretty spread out. It actually might have even been earlier than that, but nothing had to be taken in or let out, just straps, hem, and bustle. I think mine worked out well because the seamstress was really really busy that time of year, but if that's not the case I don't think it needs to be that early.

  • I went in a little under two months---but my dress needed taken in a lot, a hem, and a bustle. I figured at least 3 fittings--2/3 weeks apart = a month and a half. That gives me enough wiggle room just incase anything needs done.

If your dress is simple, and you aren't traveling---why not start a month out?

  • I would go two months, you'll try it on after alterations, and they can take it in more if they need to.

  • Rach I don't know if I've seen your dress, do you have pics?

  • Mine was early about 3-4 months out, but thats becuase the dress was too small.  I was still losing a lot of weight, but if the call needed to be made to put a corset back in, she had to have time to do it.

  • My dress came in 3 weeks before my wedding, so that's when the first fitting was.

  • Oh wow Rach, you look stunning!  I love that dress.

If I do go in for my first fitting 2 months out, can I continue to lose weight and go in again a month before the wedding in case it needs to be taken in some more?

  • Mine is a little less than two months out, but I'm traveling and I need a lot done and my dress is fairly complicated.

    Thanks, Nugget!

I would check with the place that's going to do your alterations. If they don't have to take the dress in at first (saying you go in now), would they have time to do it a month out? And, if you continue to lose weight and it needs take in again, will they change you double?

I've always thought we were kindred spirits because of our colored dresses. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-embarassed.gif" border="0" alt="Embarassed" title="Embarassed" />
