Addressing envelopes

When addressing the envelopes to send out my std I used a very modern style calligraphy which doesn't leave much room to spell out the guest's last name so instead of writing, for example, John and Samantha so and so, I only wrote John and Samantha. Do you think this will matter at all?

You're saying you're not using the guests last name?

You should do whatever you need to do to include the last name.  It's mail -- it should have their last names on it.

If you have to, use first initials and last name.  So if John and Samantha have the last name "MIller" then say "J. and S. Miller".  Or just use a different style of caligraphy that leaves room.

I agree with Avion. The last name should definitely be on the envelope when you mail something. For one thing what if the STD accidently ends up at a neighbors house who doesn't know the first names of John and Samantha but they know that their last name is "XYZ"? They'll look at the STD and realize it got mixed up and give it to the rightful owners. (I say this from experience, I've had more mail get sent to my neighbors on accident than I care to admit.) But if there's no last name, then John and Samantha may never recieve it. Just something to think about!

Is it a handwritten caligraphy or a computer generated?  If computer generated, choose a smaller size.  If handwritten, you could put the last name on the next line if you can't fit it on the first line, so

John and Samantha

Miller

123 Any Street

YourTown, US

Obviously, center it all up so it looks nice.

FWIW, I addressed my own STDs to A. and B. Smith when I needed to shorten the names. I think PPs are right, it's kinda important for the post office to have that info. Especially if the mail were misdirected or the person had moved and you didn't know.
