::Expat::

So I saw your post in Suns post and watched your episode of The Knot Live. You sound so different than I thought you would!

Re: ::Expat::

  • Wow!  Thanks for watching ;)  I have to ask though - what did you imagine I'd sound like, and how was I different???  Now I'm very curious!!!
  • which episode did you do?? I'm curios.

  • Mags - I posted the link in Sun's Question thread below.
  • I'm not sure exactly what I imagined you'd sound like.. Honestly, you sounded more normal than I thought (that sounds bad, but its not) I think I was envisioning some very mature, actress type of voice and instead you sounded like a nice, normal person.

    Okay, that's better than "I thought you'd sound normal but you talked like a hick ;)"  I was curious what you meant because I didn't think I sounded like myself on the show...  I thought I sounded different - I kind of cringed when I heard it :(

    But, I think everyone probably feels that when they hear themselves on tape, and I know I didn't sound bad, but it was still weird to hear what sounded like someone else's voice ;)  Does that make sense?

    We'll see what Sun says about how she sounds if she does it :)
  • Yes, I always hate how I sound although I've started to like it more. I can tell my voice has matured. It still never sounds like me though.
    You definitely did not sound like a hick but did I hear a little accent in there?
  • I was hoping Roxy would say like "well, I wasn't expecting you to sound straight out of Brooklyn."

    Because, forgive me, that would have been hilarious.

  • Rosy - It's funny you said that, because I do it too. For example, Sucrets sounded differently than I had imagined she'd sound when I met her in person. I can't describe how she sound differently, but I had an idea in my head and she sounded a bit different. Mag pretty much matched what I thought she'd sound like. :) I don't know what it is, but I look at a picture and find myself wondering what people would sound like.

    <div>Yes, TJ, that would have been funny!  And shocking, I agree ;)</div>
  • gg- Rosy? I like it! Sucrets sounded different than I imagined as well (granted I only heard her in her musical clip from FB). I would imagine you are soft spoken but you said the other day you always talk loud.

    Tj- hahaha no. That would have been AWESOME though.

    Expat- Yea, it sounds a teeny bit southern. Well, people always say I have an accent. Pretty sure Alaskans don't have accents. I've been told I have a southern accent (from my year in SC?) a boston accent (I do when I say "box" "Coffee", "I know", "home" and some other words) and an unknown accent. Weird.
  • Hahaha I love KA's cameo toward the end...
  • gretch - you sounded different, too!  I think your voice was higher than I imagined.

    And whit's voice was a southern as I thought, but with a pretty and lyrical quality.

    I think that's what it was, Sucrets. Yours was a bit higher than I expected. I can't exactly put my finger on it though. :)

    Roxy - You are catching all of my typos lately! ;-) I type and post faster than I can read, I guess! I have a video posted on FB called Lots of Rain and I speak in that. And yes, I am very loud. If I'm speaking quietly, it's because I was told to and/or I'm trying extremely hard to do so.

  • Hopefully this isn't weird, but Sucrets, in your musical videos, you sounded pretty much like I thought you would.

    I don't know what people think I sound like, but I think my upper midwest accent may surprise people.  I've lived on the east coast for nearly 3 years now and people STILL comment on it frequently. :)

  • Gretch- I know, maybe because you rarely have typos. That and I was confused for a second as to who Rosy was haha. I'm going to listen to your video, I'm curious now..
  • I just watched it too. You are British in my mind...I have no idea why that is.

  • I've had quite a few typos lately! I can't blame drunkenness or lack of sleep though, so it's all on me. Haha.

  • Roxy, you don't talk like Sarah Palin, do you?!

    kate - that's good to know!  I even impressed myself with my diction in those videos, lol.

    gretch - that's weird that you thought my voice was higher.  I was really upset a few years ago because it all of a sudden felt deeper, but my voice therapist (I had nodules) said that it was fine.  I think I try to speak higher since it's healthier.

  • Mery- Not at all. Not even close.
  • I also thought that you sounded differently from what I expected. But like roxy, I have no idea what I thought you sounded like.

    As a Texan that tries to to be as un-southern as possible, I thought that you didn't sound like a hick at all. :)
  • Sucrets - And it's funny you said the same about me. Some kid I dated in 7th grade told me that I sounded like a man when I called him one day, so I've always thought that. Stupid I know, but it's stuck with me all these years!

  • Oh hey, thepinksuperhero was in that clip too.

    People used to confuse me and my brother on the phone when we were kids, and I don't sound a bit mannish. Everyone hates their own voice since ti sounds different in your head. But when I did radio radio I got used to hearing myself recorded. I still don't love it, but I'm used to what my real voice sounds like.
