Quick! Help!

I got a very last minute reading for a wedding I'm in this afternoon - how do I read this out loud: Ephesians 5:2a, 25-32

I know it's from the book of Ephesians, Chapter 5..... but not sure what the rest is.

TIA

"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.  Even so husbands should love their wives as their bodies.  He who loves his wife loves himself.  For no man ever hates his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body.  For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall be become one flesh.  This mystery is a profound one, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church."

In the New Testament of the Bible, go to the book of Ephesians.  Then go to chapter 5 and read verses 25 to 32.  They should be the same or similar to what I've written above.  My quote came from my own bible - not sure if you will have the same version.

EDIT: Verse 2 from Chapter 5 is "And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."  They may want you to read that before the longer passage.  Clarify with them!
  • Do you just want to know how to read the book, chapter and verse?

For a Catholic service:  "A reading from the Epistle to the Ephesians."

You could always ask the priest to clarify, or listen to how the first reading is introduced.  My home parish does not read the chapter and verses out loud - but you could add "chapter 5" to the end.

  • I've never heard anyone announce more than just "A reading from the book of ____". Double check with the officiant when you get there, but more than likely you don't have to say too much more than that.
