Did anybody watch Jersey Shore last night?

Fi turned it on because there was nothing else on and we were bored out of our minds.  We found ourselves completely hooked into the craziness.  But holy stereotypes.  Thoughts?

Re: Did anybody watch Jersey Shore last night?

  • Nope, I watched the office. I have no idea what jersey shore is.
  • No I missed it! Was it good?

  • The commercial for that show made me want to strangle someone. So no...I think I'll be avoiding it.

  • I know there are a lot of Italians who are offended by the show because it reinforces some negative stereotypes.  I'm half Italian and haven't watched it, but I honestly don't care.  Are people really going to think all Italians are like that?  Meh.
  • Never heard of it.  I was busy falling asleep at my daughter's Christmas concert last night.  Her choir was the second last group to perform.  It was a long night.

  • Jersey Shore was on post-office.  It's a new MTV reality show.  I had no intention of watching it until it was on.

Ricks, it was drama and crazy filled.  But the Italian-American stereotypes are very strong.  I mean, they all go around calling THEMSELVES Guidos and Guidettes.
  • Yes, Salt, I was stabby the whole time we were watching, but it's like a train wreck.  Can't look away.
  • It's on our DVR right now.  We'll be watching it soon.  Right now, we're watching the quality tv that is the RR/RW Challenge.
  • Love me some Ruins.
  • I love the pit stains in the commercial. I laugh at him every time it comes on. And I love me some ruins too.
  • THe pit stains were awesome.  FI and I were dying.
  • Does anybody else feel like Johnny looks completely freakin' different than he did on the last challenge?  And, yes, it appals me that this is something I contemplate and may have asked DH about half a dozen times.
  • Yes! I was just thinking that. He looks awful. He looks like he's aged about 10 years.
  • No. I live at the Jersey Shore, and I deal with those tourist-douchebags "live" all summer long. Why would I want to watch them on TV in what is my season of peace?

Sorry, I harbor a lot of anger towards that show. People who actually LIVE at the shore (for the most part) are pretty awesome.

  • Yes.  When it first started, I saw Johnny and was like...Johnny Bananas?  No way!  PLUS he hasn't been nearly as big of a jerk-off until the past week or two.  On the Island he was a huge jerk-off the entire time.
  • Is the real douchey one Kenny? I hate him. He's just so mean. He is hot, though.
  • Yeah, Meg.  I find it hard to believe that ANYTHING is ever close in reality to the way MTV portrays it.  Hopefully most people with half a brain realize that as well.
  • Yeah, Kenny has been pretty tool-like in the Ruins.  I don't find him attractive though either.  Maybe just because of his attitude, because normally I would.

I also truly believe that Evan is a good guy, and when he does jerky things it's his "TV Persona."
  • Yes, I think Evan is a follower and is only an ass because he plays one on TV. I think he feels bad for the mean stuff he does. I love Susie.

I always figure whenever any of the guys are jerky it's the 'roids.
  • Thanks JK!

As soon as I posted that, I was like "Omg, I'm gonna get ripped apart for whining about that", lol. But seriously, I'm used to NJ in general having crappy stereotypes (The mob, getting STDs from looking at a bathroom, the "oh moi gawd!" accent) ... and I will admit, that the judging from the commercials, the "stereotypes" ARE spot-on ... for the tourists that come here. Not actual locals.

  • No, the whole reason I posted this Meg, was to discuss the negative stereotype portrayal.  But that backfired because no one watched it ;)

This exactly.  If I had to know one of the guys in real life it would be Cohutta or Evan.  The rest make me want to punch myself in the face.
  • Crap, yes, Julez, I think the 'roids can be blamed for many things.
  • So is this Jersey Shore a spin off of when MTV did "True Life - I'm going to Jersey Shore for the Summer" type of show, but stretching it out over a season of shows?  These people are just there for the summer right?
  • Ok, we've been watching for like 3 minutes and I'm about to stab my eyes out over the fact they also say guido every 2 seconds.
  • Stackeye, pretty much.  It's just a reality show following a bunch of strangers sharing a Jersey Shore beachhouse for the summer.

Um, it could basically be Real World: Jersey Shore, the Guido edition (and I mean no disrepect by that, they all call THEMSELVES Guidos.)

I haven't seen this show. I've heard of it though. I may have to check it out, although it will probably piss me off.

From what eveyone is describing, this sounds more like North Jersey than South Jersey.
