Need Opinions STAT!!!!

IF you had the chance to get a very expensive veil for 50% off its retail price, would you buy it ? (regardless of what that discounted price was).

Re: Need Opinions STAT!!!!

  • No.  I bought my veil on eBay for $10.  It is virtually indistinguishable from the $200+ custom made veils in the bridal store I bought my dress at.

  • Nope. I would need ot know what the discount price was and what it looked like.

    Veils are just fancy netting.

  • No. But what is very expensive?

I am wearing my best friends from her wedding as something borrowed.

  • What is the budget set for your veil?  It doesn't matter if 50% is still over what you budgeted.  A discount is only a discount if you can afford it.
  • I dont know how to post pics - but its cathedral length mantilla w/blusher, 6" alencon lace border which matches my dress.   The orig. price is 1k, so its 500. The veil is discontinued, so I won't be able to find it if I decide later thats its the right veil.

  • is the 500 in your budget? then get it. if not, then don't. I think I'll be getting my veil off of etsy for $30-40. that's a discount.

and holy moly, I couldn't even imagine paying $1000 for the dress, much less for a veil.

  • Not just because it was on sale.  Veils aren't investment pieces meant for resale.  I paid $35 for mine, and that was my limit.  A $350 veil 50% off is still an absurd price I wouldn't touch.

  • ummm not in my life would i even consider spending more than 200 dollars on a veil. But if that's what you can afford and are willing to spend on a piece of fabric thats your decision. if you have the money and you like it I dont get why you're asking us? We dont know your budget or taste so...sounds like you wanted to be validated on your purchase.

  • 500 dollars for a veil is a huge waste of money.  Seriously.

  • Personally, I wouldn't pay that much for a veil, ever.  But, if it's in budget for you and you really want it, then you might as well.  I hope your whole outfit budget isn't out of proportion with the rest of the wedding budget.

  • $500 for something I wear on my head?! Wow. I could never bring myself to pay that much...
  • Yeah, my veil was $20 on ebay.  But if you have the money and think it's worth it, then go for it. $500 was what my dress cost, lol.

  • Yeesh, I paid $100 for my veil and considered that my one splurge. I'm still trying to figure out how I can turn it into a craft project or meaningful "thing" for the future. $500 is a lot of money for a ceremony veil.
  • Honestly, probably not. I wouldn't have had a veil, but I was able to borrow one from a friend. There's no way I would have paid more than $20 for one.
  • I'm not wearing a veil. I kind of hate them. The very idea of wearing one gives me a migraine.

  • umm.. I didn't have a veil, so my answer would be no.

But if in your budget, go for it.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I wouldn't pay that much for a veil. But I'm a strange situation since I wore my mom's veil, and it would have cost that much or more if I had bought it new.
