meet Maggie

Our new kitteh. My parents found a litter of 4 kittens in the church parking lot about 10 days ago, all 4 completely different looking. So, more than likely, there were 4 males in the picture. All 4 have been adopted. We have dubbed our little female tortoiseshell calico Mary Magdalene, AKA "Maggie." Husband is over the moon about her, and both daughters are quite enamored.

  • She's a very lovable kitty, and obviously socialized. There was some question as to whether this litter was feral, but all of the kittens are WAY too friendly to have not been exposed to people before. So that means that someone dropped off a litter of kittens in a church parking lot (on a Wednesday) when it was supposed to get down into the single digits that night. Sometimes I really hate people.
  • That's disgusting Sara - but in the end, probably for the better - now they are in loving home rather than wherever they started off :)
hopefully they were decent enough to get momma spayed to prevent more llitters

  • fwiw my kittens were feral and they are total love bugs.  and yes - I hope they got the mom spayed and then learned their lesson/paid karmic retribution.

  • andy and KJB, I certainly hope whomever owns the Momcat gets her spayed. Funny story; my mom got quite belligerent with the lady at the local animal shelter over the semantics of "euthanize." After taking 3 of the 4 kittehs to their vet for deworming and first shots, she went by the the local shelter, "just in case." In order to leave the litter, she would have needed to sign a release, meaning that when she left, the shelter wouldn't call her if the shelter couldn't adopt out the kittens.

    Mom: "You mean kill them."
Shelter lady: "No.! We euthanize them."
    Mom: "It's the same thing!"
Shelter lady: "No it's not, we euthanize them humanely!"
Mom: "Dead is dead. I'll be going now. And taking the kittens with me."
  • Good for your mom.  And she's right.  I mean, it's nice they don't club them over the head, but yep, still dead.

  • oh man that is so so sad and I'm glad that your mom took charge like that.  Actually on Friday I went to a fundraiser for MN SNAP - minnesota spay and neuter assistance program.  They showed this video of a couple dogs and a cat getting put down.  I cried - in my really expensive hair/dress/makeup for 15 mins.

    She is really cute.

sarabellam - I know what you mean about the whole euthanize thing. We had found a kitten back in April in our apt parking lot. All the shelters were full and wouldn't take any more kittens. We aren't allowed to have pets in our apt plus I am allergic to them, but were going to keep her until we could find a good home for her. We had tried taking her to an animal shelter and they told us they would just put her down (H demanded they be honest with us) so we took her back home.

We weren't sure if the Mom got killed or someone just dumped them. We found a few other kittens dead within the same area. After we took her in, we took her to the vet and tried nursing her and all that. They said she was healthy even though they found worms and gave her de-wormer. Unfortunately she ended up dying on us after we had had her about 10 days and spent over $100 bucks on her.
  • She's so cute! And tiny! And did I mention cute? Just make sure to get her tested for feline leukemia. I had a 6 month old kitten hop into the car with me at Applebees and I took her home(named her Maggie too, maybe why this hits so clost to home for me). She seemed really healthy, but she had contracted Feline Leukemia on the streets and she ended up passing this past May, she was only a year and a half. So make sure that you take her to a vet and get bloodwork done. She's beautiful and I hope she has a long and happy life with you.
