Bridal Shower and Bachelorette??/

I asked this on the knot iPhone app, but I wanted to get more answers.

Can I invitepeople to my shower and bachelorette party if they are not invited to the wedding?  My mom read somewhere that it is only acceptable to invite co-workers that aren't invited to the wedding.  I wasn't able to invite eeryone so I figured this could be a way to include them.   Please help me out.

No.  The only exception is if somebody host a work-only or church-only shower for you.  Those people don't have to be invited to the wedding.  But it is NOT acceptable to invite co-workers to a general shower or b-party and not invite them to the wedding, nor is it ever acceptable for anybody else.

  • You can't invite people to a pre-wedding party if they're not invited to the wedding.  It's not "including" them to say, "You can come to my party and buy me a gift, but you can't come to my wedding."  There's no nice way to say that.

  • Ditto PPs - it comes off as gift grabby.  A smaller wedding means you have a smaller shower.  If someone gets invited to a pre-wedding event- they need to be invited to the wedding.
  • Nope.  The only co-worker who was invited to my bach was a girl who was invited to the wedding. She threw me a shower at work, and several co-workers participated, even though they knew they were not invited. Which was very sweet of them, but not expected at all.
