AW - fabric for our crib skirt!

This is the pattern:

And this is the fabric I chose:

The stars will be on the bottom, pinstripe pink on the top and a strip of the green polka dots in the middle.

I'm so excited now!

  • So cute!

Today we were at Target and I went crazy buying stuff for my friend's new baby.  I also bought a baby shower gift and my nephew that's almost here.

Good grief, everyone is knocked up!

  • I love it! Heres the fabric I mentioned below. It was lighter (not so dark) in real life

  • That is way too cute! Are you sewing it yourself?

Hell, no.  My SIL has a sewing machine and has offered to make it for us.

I wish I could make stuff like that.

  • Are you doing a bumper (I know, they're dangerous...)? What are you doing for crib sheets?
  • Sucrets, I like!

No bumper, if anything we'll get a breatheable one.

The baby only really needs fitted sheets for awhile (and sleep sacks), so we'll register for some ones that match, but it shouldn't be hard because the pink and green (and blue) are all pretty standard shades.  I like how it's not too girly but will still work with standard stuff.

  • Thanks, guys!

There is so much cute stuff, but I'm happy with my decision, and I made it pretty fast (for me).

I don't want her room looking like pink threw up on it.

Suffocation.  Babies can roll into them and suffocate.

Infants are not supposed to have any soft bedding in their cribs.  You should put them to sleep on a firm mattress and tight fitting crib sheet to help minimize *the risk of* SIDS.

  • Ohhh.  Those are the padded things on the side, correct?
    Photobucket
  • Correct!  They're uber cute, but not safe.  :(  Once babies can stand, they can also use them to get out of the crib.

Even quilts are a waste of money.  Bedding sets are so adorable to look at, but not reasonable to buy.  Much better in pieces.

(the research on baby stuff is ridiculous...I've learned so much)

  • Well when I get knocked up, you'll be teh gal I go to, bc I know nothing when it comes to that.

  • Its amazing the random things that arent good for babies :( How do you cover them in a blanket without them potentially suffocating? Couldnt it bunch up.

I feel like an ass for asking, like its going to stress you out or something. Im just curious how it works. Ive never seen a real life sleeping baby before.
  • Yea, it'll be easy to get a cute a matching fitted sheet. How exciting!

Either a light blanket securely tucked around the mattress, or just use sleep sacks.  We were given a few already, and will probably get some more.  They're fleecy.

Surely!  I've been reading a book that recommends all the best rated stuff from parents.  It's overwhelming at times, but I've been doing okay with it.  Just can't wait for the registries to be done.

  • Sleep sacks? Is that just like a sack you stick the baby in that doesnt ride up very high?

I really fear for any future children I may have, because of how utterly clueless I am...

Yeah, it's got arms and zips up the front and is just like a bag on the bottom.  But a cute one.

No worries, I really had NO IDEA about any of this stuff.  I started getting a clue when my bro and sil had kids, but have learned a TON recently since I had to, lol.

  • Sucrets, if knitted sheets are recommended safety-wise (it's been quite a while since I've had a child that young), I much preferred them to the woven ones. Much softer, and stayed on the crib mattress much better.

FWIW, my younger daughter NEVER slept on her back, from the day I brought her home from the hospital. I laid her on her back, but she rolled to her side, from the time she was 2 days old. Yeah, they aren't supposed to be able to do that, but she did.
  • Thanks, Sara!  We're going to register at Babies R Us tomorrow or Monday and will look in to that.

Wow, interesting that she rolled over that early!  Apparently when I was a baby, you were a bad parent if you put your kid to bed on their back and it was recommended to sleep on your belly.  My, how times have changed.

  • Yea, my mom said she put me to sleep on my belly everynight because thats what she was told. I also had a crib bumper...
I think when it comes around I may do a bumper, we'll see though...

Soo, when can I start buying cute little dresses? Haha
  • lolz, anytime you want!  We registered at Target today and I started a BRU one online but don't have anything on it.  We're only registering for basic stuff because I think we'll get tons of cute frou-frou stuff anyway.  :)

  • Yeah, the little monster started crawling at 4 months. Started as an army crawl, but it got her where she wanted to go.

Total non-sequitur here, but what can you tell me about St. Thomas Choir School in Manhattan? Our choir director is going to recommend my older daughter for a camp there.

Oh, and the crib skirt is going to be adorable!
  • Yea, I bet you will get lots of the frou frou. Baby girls are just so fun.
I'm crossing my fingers that T's sister has a girl..I almost bought a dress when we were in St. Kitts.
  • sara - I have never heard of it.  Is there a specific reason he is recommending her to go there?

roxy - I'm psyched for the frou-frou and for the classic girl stuff.  Basically, everything.  :)
