more baby name ridiculousness

A girl I know just gave her son this name:

Lincoln Ronald Max Todd Hypenated-Lastname. A little long, no?

Wow.  Is she typically an indecisive person?  That kid won't understand what his name is until he's like 17.
  • I don't know her very well...she lives in town, she's a huge AW.

  • Holy hell. Of the four names he has, which one are they going to call him? I'd call him LRMT.

  • she's a huge AW.

Well, that's obvious. I hope at age 4 that kid starts only answering to "Bob".
  • I went to school with a kid named Lincoln and we called him Stinkin Lincoln.
  • Well duh P2, the longer your kid's name is the more important they will be the instant they emerge from the womb!!1!!111!!!!

;) i'm glad to see you here this week.
  • I wonder how many jokes will be made about his log.
  • perhaps he's going to be their only child and they decided to name him all the names of all potential children that they will not be having?

    HAHA!
  • Yikes, that's awful.  Lincoln is getting so overused anyway but to add 3+ names to that!  Wow.
  • I actually like the name Lincoln, but that's a whole lot of names for a kid.

A friend of mine from high school just had a baby girl and named her Persephone.  What do you all think of that name? I think it's a bit odd.

I like the name, but I don't know that I would name my kid after the wife of the ruler of the Underworld.

Ha, that's funny. I didn't even think of that.
Although, this is the girl that had the medieval-themed wedding, with her flowergirls dressed as fairies, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

Nope, he needs to answer only to "Ty."
  • I liked the name, but there's a guy I know from when I lived in a different town - his name is Lincoln, and this fall, he threatened to blow his wife up with dynamite. He's a fuckingfuckwad.

A good friend of mine has a niece names persephone. It works for her b/c her parents are very crunchy, raw-foodie, co-op running kind of folks.

(edit) Oh, and I like lincoln, too. Although I know a golden retriever named lincoln and I can't seem to shake the association.

I'm still clueless on what I'm going to name the little guy, but the good news is that DH is on board with ditching his family's weird naming tradition (even FIL said he didn't mind) so we can at least have productive discussions about it...but finding a name is hard!!

    Do what?!?
  • Yep, he has his dynamite ticket I guess, so he's legally allowed (or was) to buy dynamite. He threatened his wife (ex wife, I suppose) that he was going to blow her up with dynamite...she called the cops, the cops searched his place, found that he in fact did have dynamite (so a threat he could actually act upon), and arrested him. He's out now, but he's still a fuckwad. Somehow he got a pardon to travel to Mexico....

    Curious...details?
  • I posted about it a few weeks ago. Since it's the firstborn son (barf), the tradition is to have a first name that begins with "P" and a middle name the same as DH's. DH had his dad's middle name and a first name beginning with "B". BP, PB, BP, PB, ad infinitum...

Ooh.  Yay for breaking wierd naming traditions!  I thought of you the other day when my father informed me that our first born son WILL be named John, because that's how "italians do it" and the last three or four generations of first born sons on his side have been named some variant of John.

Um, no.  Sorry dad.  We've already got names picked out for 2 boys if we were to have them, thanks.

I feel like the Duggars would excel at this formula.

:p glad you don't have to comply!
  • Here's an odd pne for a boy: Texas Battle. Yep, true story.

  • FI:  If we ever have a daughter, we should name her Sorah.
    Me: Sorah?
FI: Yes.  It's pretty, don't you think?
Me: ... it's the name of your D&D character, isn't it?
    FI: (silence)
Me: We are not naming our kid after your D&D character!

I frequently have to remind him that there's a very distinct line between the level of geekery I'll embrace and the level of geekery that ends in divorce.  This was definitely one of the latter.

  • Wow. That's ridiculous.
  • I cannot stand the name Todd. No offense if any of your FIs are named that.

    Brilliant.

So, we're both medieval history grad students, actually, so occasionally he'll come up with a name he's found in a text. That's not so bad, though, as when he tries to enforce medieval political theory. Example:

M: Would you like something specific as a wedding present?
T: The best gift a wife can give to her husband is a surviving male heir.
    M: ...
T: Otherwise the kingdom falls into chaos!
    M: ...how about a watch?
