Bridesmaids

Did anyone else see the movie Bridesmaids and think the etiquette was totally wrong?

Re: Bridesmaids

  • I haven't seen the movie, so I'm going to need more information. Examples would be helpful. Youtube videos would be preferred. Ready, go.

I saw it...I don't know that I paid attention to etiquette because it was hilarious.

  • Sounds like OP takes things a little too seriously, perhaps?

  • The movie was freaking hilarious, bottom line.

It was a comedy, not a documentary.

Oh well of course it's hilarious, but for example, the MOH wanted to plan a Bparty that would be affordable for everyone, but the other BM insists on Vegas and kinda ropes everyone into it. When the Bparty goes wrong, the bride kicks MOH out of the wedding. I know it's not a documentary, I just wondered if anyone else had noticed. My bad. Just trying to start a conversation!

That's kind of the point of the movie...that everything is exactly opposite of the way you're supposed to do it.
If they did everything by the rules, there would be no point to make the movie. IMO.

  • We've got some conversation going in the Happy 4th of July thread, if you'd like to join us there. You probably won't get very far here ;)

  • I will give you this, OP: You spelled etiquette correctly.

Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
  • So I'm told in other threads to stick around, but when I do, my conversation is unwelcome and people make me feel like an idiot for making an observation, which people do all the time. I think I just give up. Happy 4th!

I have actually noticed that about Bridesmaids, too. I think people would be more inclined to agree if your OP had some examples or something, like J said. Don't take it personally. :)

But yeah, I've talked to my sister before about how Lillian is basically a bridezilla from the start, like, "You don't have to be my MOH, I know it's a lot to ask of you and you're really busy." And then the subsequent demotion is not cool. Oh, and the butterfly in the shower invitation kills me.

However, I freaking love that movie and watch it wayyyy too often. Absolutely hilarious.

  • Yeah, I noticed, but that's what makes it funny, you know? If the bride wasn't such a bridezilla, and the other bridesmaids hadn't been nutjobs, then the movie would have been pretty boring:-)

Dude, crazypants, I invited you to come chat with us in a thread we were already chatting in. How is that saying your conversation is unwelcome?

  • Hey, chill lady. J was trying to be helpful by letting you know there was already a conversation thread going on that people were ...conversing in. Generally, people aren't going to leave the current chat thread to go to a new chat thread, even if the poster who starts the new one is superfuckingpopular.
  • I forgot about the puppies as parting gifts for the shower.

I do think that the etiquette at the bridal shop was spot on. I mean, if you're about to crap your pants and the toilet is taken, by all means, use the sink.

I disagree. Take it to the street and use a wedding dress to hide your act from public view.

  • That was the point of the movie, it was supposed to be against ettiquete. We get to laugh at the BSCraziness. There is a deleted scene that doesn't air on HBO, but they showed it in the commercials and in talk shows Kristin Wiig appeared in where she looks at a list of MOH duties online and it's crazy long. The movie just pokes fun at how easily normal people get swept away by stuff. In the end, we learn that Helen is actually sad and lonely and just trying to be helpful in the only way she knows how to be. Although Annie blamed the problems on Helen, it was Lillian who was acting cray cray and let things get away from her. She reigns herself back in and the three of them become friends.
