Italian Wedding Annoucements HELP!! What the hell are they??

HELP!?
So my future Mother law would like to me send annoucements to my fiancee's family in italy. She says she has arranged the wording in italian for me but I have no idea what the hell these things are supposed to look like! do I put in a picture? Is it laid out like a letter or invite? If anyone could please clue me in on what this annoucement thing is I would be very grateful!! These are to be sent out before the ceremony which is 3 months away.

  • Unfortunately I don't know. Just in case none of the other ladies know either, you could try the Customs and Traditions board:

  • It sounds like they're just like regular wedding announcements, but in Italian so you can just copy/paste. You can find all different kinds of announcements at various stationary sites. You can use a picture or not; it's up to you.
  • I would ask for her help in the process.  My MIL also wanted to do bonbonnieres and I had no idea what to do or where to look.

Furthermore, I would probably have her pay for these announcements if she insistent on them.  Otherwise you can always send the Italians an actual invite.
  • That's what I thought?? I thought annoucements come after the wedding with a wedding photo. But this is something seperate apparently sort of like a subsitution for not having a newspaper annoucement?? I'll do some more digging before clarify with the MIL?

[QUOTE]I've never heard of sending an announcement ahead of time.  It seems like bad luck to me (and I'm Italian).

    Ditto Eagles.
Also, I wouldn't do any more research. I would just work with MIL on getting them printed and sent out the day of the wedding as suggested.
It sounds like she knows what she wants to do, so talk to her :)
    good luck

  • Hm. I am really sure my friend didn't send announcements, and she got married in Italy to an Italian in a very small wedding so... Huh.  Maybe it's just something your FMIL wants to do. But definitely send them the day of the wedding or, at the very least, no more than a few days before. With the way the Italian postal service works, it will be lucky if they even receive them within a month of your wedding date, to be hoenst.
  • So apparently these do go out prior to the wedding! It's because we're not getting married in Italy or sending a formal invitation to the family because we're having a destination wedding. His mother said they look something like a post card. The family sends money and then we send them a thank-you after the wedding.

Sooo not anywhere in the scope of my family traditions but very important. Relatives have called from Sicily asking when they will see them. I think they only apply when your not inviting the family.

Hopefully this helps anyone else whose as confused as me with these.
