Photo Contract Question

I want to hear some opinions about this- A photographer i'm ready to sign with sent me a contract the other day. There's a section in the contract which says the photographer "has the rights to use and publish the photos for editorial, trade, advertising and any other purpose and in any manner and medium and we release him from all liability relating to said photographs".

We are given the rights to the photos so I don't understand why this paragraph would be in the contract. When I contacted the photographer he wrote back to me and said he can't change this section and can only include a statement that the photos won't be listed on his blog or on the Internet. I really like this photographer but I don't understand what other purpose the photos would be used for- I don't want to see myself on some crazy ad ten years from now. What do you think? Is this normal? Was a section like this included in your contract? Thanks for any advice.
